What's new

$1 bl Defense deal with Russia Includes:

We R buying more migs SMT? Our 4.5 gen is yet to be selected. And seeing YAK 130 I hope its Su27/30/35 rather than mig. Btw Su 35 costs 65 million $$ as per wiki sources citing russian news papers and air force officials contrarary to 100 mn $$ as another member suggested in another thread.

According to Russian military analyst Igor Korotchenko, Dhaka did not discuss any matter about Sukhoi. According to him, BAF is having serious talks regarding 2 or more squadrons of upgraded 4+ generation new built Mig-29SMT/M.

I heard that BD is buying JF17...what happen to that

There were no talks at anytime regarding JF-17. JF-17 is an entry level 4th generation fighter with very limited capability and air speed. Does not meet BAF requirements. It even failed to meet the Stop-Gap fighter requirements. I guess you heard rumors.

it will be BTR-82A not BTR-80 :coffee:

According to Russian military analyst Igor Korotchenko, its BTR-80. He mentioned quantity: 80 to 100. According to prothom alo, this 80-100 includes some command vehicles as well.

BTR-80: Command Vehicle:

BTR-82A deal is separate deal which has been made last year, BTR-80 is part of $1 billion deal.

@animelive , BTR-82A is more advanced than BTR-80, BTR-82A has night vision capability, 128 units of BTR-82A has been ordered.

It's very unlikely that Flankers would be a part of this deal.

And considering the costs, no one would buy the Su-35. Any wise nation would simply wait for the PAK-FA (not saying BD is to buy them, lol).

any source of what ? :what:

The weapons. Where did the OP get the list? :what:

Why there is no news about procurement of SAM's. I heard russians were selling their older air defense sams like Pechora-2m after refurbishing for a little price. Can't we include some of those sam batteries in our defense deal. All our Airforce is left with are FM-90's.

World is going for 5th gen fighters with stealthy feature within 2020, so there will be next generation SAM systems, probably Bangladesh is waiting for it.

I think we shouldn't go for fighter costing more than $20 mil, if necessary we can increase the quantity.

Quantity does not matter much. If BAF had 3 to 4 squadrons of Mig-29SMT/M (some 48 to 64 aircraft) with expert and well trained pilots, then even India (having its border covering three sides of Bangladesh) would think many times before attacking. (Not trolling) and Myanmar would pee in their pants thinking of so.

Bangladesh can secure all its airspace with 64 Mig-29SMT/M:
1. Dhaka needs 2 squadrons (32 Mig)
2. Chittagong needs 1 squadrons (12 Mig)
3. Cox's Bazaar needs 1 squadrons (12 Mig)
4. Bogra needs 1 squadrons (8 Mig)

Man you made the biggest mistake by mentioning their name even. Now they will come out from all hellholes and flood this thread with their shameless chest-thumping. Although this is the bd section of pdf yet we are hugely outnumbered here. The thing I have learnt in my short stay in PDF is you just avoid them as far as possible. They just wait for an oppurtunity to flock in here and you just provided one.:undecided:

As far as 5th generation planes are concerned, only a handful of nations are going for it. The US is the only country to replace majority of its 4th generation planes with the F-35. And that'll take time, no sooner than 2025.

SAM system is normally used for 30 to 40 years, 20 years from now all will have 5th gen fighters.

The same source also suggests a possible procurement of Air Defense Systems. He did not mentioned what kind of air defense system however, the kind of radar being in process of procurement suggests advanced type. Possibly any of the following type:

2K12 Kub (SA-6): The 2K12 "Kub" (NATO reporting name: SA-6 "Gainful") mobile surface-to-air missile system is a Soviet low to medium-level air defense system designed to protect ground forces from air attack. "2К12" is the GRAU designation of the system.
The fairly large missiles have an effective range of 4–24 km (2.5–15 miles) and an effective altitude of 50–14000 m (164–45,931 ft). The missile weighs 599 kg (1321 lb) and the warhead weighs 56 kg (123 lb). Top missile speed is approx. Mach 2.8.

or

9K33 Osa (SA-8): The 9K33 Osa is a highly mobile, low-altitude, short-range tactical surface-to-air missile system. "9K33" is its GRAU designation. Its NATO reporting name is SA-8 Gecko.
Engagement range and altitude for the missile is 15 km and .1–12km (33-42,500 ft). The system is designed for use primarily against jet aircraft and helicopters in any kind of weather.
