I am not from the north. But we don't call it momos for the steamed buns. In our dialect we call it man-thau. I hope I got the right spelling.
Also, the momos he's talking about is very similar to Jiao zi which is steamed and has fillings in it. It's not a bun though. Like we call the buns Bao zi.
