with high voltage about 1 million every engine can make more thrust . I am not sure it is possible but it worth to try
I think it is possible to use Magnetoplasmadynamic thruster for launching satellites instead of liquid or solid rockets ?!
MPDT makes 200N thrust an array of for example 5 MPDTs can make 1kN thrust i guess it's enough for an small satellite and what is important is these engines can carry...

about ion thruster electricity usage I think I was wrong I didn't read whole of comment but about this plane they are using jet engine because of exhaust shape .
dear applesauce by theory you can use plasma engines for plane but in reality it needed such a high voltage (million volt) witch is dangerous and need a lot of electricity nobody made such ion engine until now and they are not using ion engine they are using one normal jet engine . except...
you can't use plasma for cooling electronic boards it makes damage for electronic parts and it is not cooler for using ion thruster it can be used but plane will be slow like glider or can't fly they want ions for making better aerodynamics and for hiding big missiles witch can not be inside...
they are using electro-ionic for plasma stealth and aerodynamic they want put weapons out under plasma
at all these projects are totally wasting money when there are uavs
