Indian Navy Multi-Role Helicopter Competition To Kickstart Again

Both offer similar capabilities. I consider the 70B to be the better aircraft for the IN due to the following: 1. Design and implementation of the avionics and mission systems. The 70B has a more user friendly and intuitive operator design than the 60R, in my opinion. 2. Use of a...

Indian Navy Multi-Role Helicopter Competition To Kickstart Again

I I believe either vendor will agree to some sort of co-production agreement involving technology transfer to help India "stand up" an indigenous manufacturing capability once the number of aircraft researches a certain threshold. Sikorsky has done that with Turkey and Poland. India already...

Indian Navy Multi-Role Helicopter Competition To Kickstart Again

A Thank-you for this information. The aircraft they flew is an S-70B Seahawk. It is very different than the MH-60R although the aircraft look similar. It is not the export designation for the MH -60R, they are completely different aircraft. Please read my previous posts in this forum. I...

Indian Navy Multi-Role Helicopter Competition To Kickstart Again

Sad day today. Just learned a Turkish Navy S-70B crashed into the mountains after leaving the Cengiz Topel airbase. Visibility was pour and the mountains were obscured at the time of the crash. I spent many weeks at the Cengiz Topel base supporting delivery of S-70B aircraft and came to know...

India is expected to buy S-70B Seahawk Multirole Helicopters for the Navy

Lo Looks like the moderator removed my link. Please search on "Sikorsky S-70B - Right choice for the Indian navy Multirole Helicopter" to find the article I authored on the S-70B.

India is expected to buy S-70B Seahawk Multirole Helicopters for the Navy

Not selected because it was not part of the tender. 60R was offered via the FMS (Foreign Military Sales) process and India preferred a direct commercial sale process, so it disqualified the aircraft. Direct commercial sales are typically cheaper since the USN is not involved. In an FMS sale, the...

India is expected to buy S-70B Seahawk Multirole Helicopters for the Navy

Uh... The picture you show is of an MH-60R, S-70B has the FLIR on the bottom of the FLIR mounting platform. Here is my two cents. It is a link to an article I wrote some time back on the Indian Defense Forum. I worked on the 70B for many years including the 5th generation aircraft in service...

Indian Navy Multi-Role Helicopter Competition To Kickstart Again

OK @SRBM2, read my previous posts and articles on the S-70B, especially the article in the Indian Defense Forum titled "Sikorsky S-70B - Right choice for the Indian navy Multirole helicopter." And please provide me info on your posts and articles to support your position. I would like to read...

Indian Navy Multi-Role Helicopter Competition To Kickstart Again

@SRBM2 - I am wasting my time trying to have a discussion with you, you have no facts, only opinions and you are obviously anti-USA on everything. I also suggest you take more time reviewing your posts because sometimes they are not understandable. Have a nice day.

Indian Navy Multi-Role Helicopter Competition To Kickstart Again

They are two different helos but have a lot of major components that are common (transmission, rotor, others) not sure what the exact breakdown is. In hindsight Sikorsky should have made the S-92 with a 5 bladed rotor instead of 4 for better performance and payload. But that would have driven...

Indian Navy Multi-Role Helicopter Competition To Kickstart Again

Sikorsky completely understands India's desire to develop and indigenous capability to design and manufacturer more sophisticated aircraft such as the S-70B. The MRH program aircraft will likely be built in Sikorsky's Stratford facility but as I said before, the larger numbers for the next...

Indian Navy Multi-Role Helicopter Competition To Kickstart Again

Thanks for posting these articles @Utkarsh! Kind of harsh @SRBM2, and not true. Sikorsky has supported a variety of foreign navies who have the S-70B and has done so with great success. Just ask the Turkish Navy. They are very happy with the aircraft. US did not blackmail anyone. How do you...

Indian Navy Multi-Role Helicopter Competition To Kickstart Again

The groundwork for a joint venture has already been laid with Tata Industries and Sikorsky has committed to building helos in India. The initial 16 would likely be built in the USA but also used to begin the process of standing up India's capability to build them in country. Because of the rules...

Indian Navy Multi-Role Helicopter Competition To Kickstart Again

Waiting anxiously to see if Prime Minister Modi, during his visit to the USA, makes any announcement regarding the Indian MRH tender. Rumors are flying the S-70B is the likely selection. We'll see, to many crazy things have already happened with this tender.

S-70B is also fully qualified and capable of launching the Raytheon MK54 Mod 1 torpedo which is now being used for the Turkish Navy and will be used on the Indian P8 aircraft India has purchased. Sonobuoys not currently installed but fully provisioned for. MH-60R does not have an antiship...

Indian Navy Multi-Role Helicopter Competition To Kickstart Again

$62.5 million per helo? Maybe for the NH90, but not for the S-70B. Where did this number come from? As someone who worked on the S-70B for many years, I have never seen a proposal with that as a per unit cost.

Modi Government Clears Defence Purchases Worth Rs. 20,000 Crore

You are dead on @Abingdonboy. S-70B can come in two versions or pretty much be customized to the customer's needs. Sikorsky has already looked at versions without the sonar that can provide a utility type aircraft that could serve a variety of missions other than ASW or ASuW. That is the beauty...

Modi Government Clears Defence Purchases Worth Rs. 20,000 Crore

Hi @Abingdonboy - yea, good to be back. I have been here monitoring but had nothing to say until this news came out. Still close to my friends at Sikorsky with whom I worked on India so this program is very close to my heart. You know my passion for the 70B and this could be the most important...

Modi Government Clears Defence Purchases Worth Rs. 20,000 Crore

FMS sales are always more expensive since the USN is involved. If the S-70B wins it will be a direct commercial sale. Note that discussions have already been held regarding a co-production facility in India to make the aircraft there. I am sure the NH-90 can out perform the 70B in some areas...
