An economic alliance between ASEAN-China-Korea would be a world power to reckon with. Definitely would be more influential in the world stage than EU or may be even US (economically) !

What's stopping Turkey from claiming/capturing them. If Russia can swallow Crimea & Eastern Ukraine, Turks should take western Thrace and parts of Non-EU Balkans. Germans could also claim Konigsberg ( today's Russian enclave of Kaliningrad ) !

Now he needs o formulate an assertive foreign policy to deal with the chaos in the neighborhood (Caucasus, Mid East & Balkan). I would say go for expansion of territory. Lack of a powerful state in a region (core state) leads to power vacuum & chaos.

Japan will be better off to have strong ties with Russia. That way at least it will still remain a regional power. It will also allow cooling of hyped up Sino-Japan rivalry, since Russia would be allied to both.

Time for Japan to play smart. Japan could make a deal (economic) with Russia, in return, Russia may give Kuril islands back. Treaty with Russia will check any Chinese threat. Japan will no longer need Washinton's support to counter China's military assertiveness.
