Agree but there would be winners and losers as I have seen families who's power eroded over the span of couple of decades. Now they only have names left and much less influence.
So these people are replaced by new middle class and business class. So the system evolves (so to speak) again the...
Sir hence I said with awareness not literacy.... I am not talking about 5-10 years but one generation (50+ years). And believe me the feudals do not have the same powers as they had maybe 30 years ago..... their land banks are reducing slowly with that their influence.
Again the current...
Blunt is good and needed for the current generation. The demographics of Pakistan is changing and urbanization together with a bit of literacy will dilute feudals powers as well with awareness people will vote whoever is better at administration.
Agree. One will not change unless there is some incentive. The incentive in this case is to keep the power/money for decades if not centuries to come (held by the same families). Otherwise the desperate/frustrated youth could turn to revolution of some sort (maybe I am delusional about this).
Good work so far and very good read @Azlan Haider
Well I am not saying the system cannot be fixed. It will take much longer to fix (maybe a life time). Some of the posts are quite good and will give you an idea why it is difficult task if not impossible. As I have suggested that the elite need...
Ah the school days.... damn! too many stories of such torture to list and that too in a private school...... thankfully didn't study anything in/from mosque/molvi.
Tenth grade was the worst of all. English subject wasn't my forte but I wasn't bad at it either (provided I got an A). My teacher...
The discussion has moved on a bit and in a good direction. I will try to reply as I go through the thread:
The above sums up everything the vast majority needs. As I have said before even in the west the vast majority is only interested in the basic necessities as well as fair and swift...
Well it would be more like soft control on policies which could benefit the businesses (i.e. tax benefits, contracts etc) but there is accountability to some extent. One has to understand that the elite is interested in money and power. On the other hand the populace get their necessities (bare...
Mods: Please clean up the thread.
Sir they are the problem not the cure of the problem..... All the civil servants are highly educated who run the day to day administration of the country. These are the same guys who are in power despite a dictator rule or democratic rule.
Edit: Their attitude...
Thank you WAJsal, very good write up. A few comments:
This will take time before the general public realize it. It is very difficult to setup a democratic system in a country where people are illiterate and follow their family/cast/chaudaries etc for voting. So even though the system of voting...
I also avoid (at least try to) debating such things although the current society is so intolerant that one has to at least try to put forward ideas which could correct this wrong.
Agree it will take a long time before the current way of life/thinking is changed. The dilution process is such...
There is always future for the elite be it Pakistan / UK / USA etc. You just have to look closely to find the upper echelon. The elite in Pakistan need to understand that if they don't change the way things are going then either it will be a revolution and they will be banished in the process or...
Thank you @Kaptaan
Thank you @Sinopakfriend
The bold parts are key. I have touched on water scarcity in one of my threads and that will go hand in hand with population growth. This relationship between water and population will need to be balanced or it will cost the country. So I would like...
I couldn't agree more and it would be the best use of solar power. Every household with/without Government subsidy could install these panels. This will also save upgrading the grid in the short to medium term.
This is where the main problem lies. If only people collaborate and put some effort into these things the face of Pakistan will change. Villagers are quite good at collaborating in such things. I have seen this happen. For example there was a scheme in Mushis era to upgrade the water channels...
I respect Mushi for the good work he did. And yes the opportunity was missed for correcting various ills in the system. But he had good 7 years! to make Judicial and Police reforms. If he had managed them then we would see a different Pakistan right now.
Agree and that is true for most of the...
Apology totally overlooked it.
It was suggested in the article to bring Army rule. So I was questioning if Army can use pressure tactics to allow for incremental changes to the system rather than an abrupt change. Change the mindset of people slowly and probably it will dilute their influence...
- the removal of this government: Why do we need to remove the government? Will the new government be any better (Unless you want the Army to takeover which I don't agree with)? I cannot blame a few hundred people for the sins of an entire nation. Civil servants make the backbone of the nation...
Couldn't agree more sir. Change happens when individuals change. People who think one man can change the fate of a nation are delusional. The harsh reality is corruption runs in the entire nation (there are only different levels. If the opportunity arises everyone of them will try to amass...
I am sure this has been discussed before but maybe not to this extent. The aim of this thread is to learn from each other, outline the problems between Pakistan and India and have an intellectual debate which may lead to some solutions to the problems. How these solutions could be presented to...
