As if we needed those ships, the Navy wanted them to simply scavenge spare parts...what some members of NATO don't feel comfortable with is that Turkey is actually outgrowing it's initial role as a simple watch guard to NATOs eastern flank and is actually on the way to becoming an assertive...
Russia isn't dumb enough to waste it's energy in a destructive conflict with Turkey. They'd rather spend their energy making sure the EU doesn't poke it's nose into its spheres of influence .
Turkey shouldn't be in the kriffing EU anyway, a special partnership is the best solution. I don't want an old technocrat in Brussels telling my country what it can't or can do.
Here is why Turkey refuses the label "genocide":
1- After Turkey accepts (lol) the so called Armenian Genocide then this opens the way for reparations (billions of dollars of my tax money)
2- After reparations grumbling and demands about "Western Armenia" (Eastern Turkey as these...
They probably cry themselves to sleep when they remember the days in the 70s when they could casually slap on an arms embargoe and bully us around on the international arena. It's good to see things changing to their disfavor. Supposed allies that refuse any useful ToT+want to charge us more and...
What I don't understand is Armenia has the nerve to constantly pressure Turkey and yet Turkey still continues to host around 40.000 illegal Armenian immigrants. Politicians in Ankara are too soft. What a disgrace.

As I said if certain steps can be taken and a mutual agreement can be arrived at then Schengen or some thing very close (faster process mechanism form Turkish nationals applying for visas for example) can easily be implemented. Everyone must be satisfied of course.
Anyway we are getting off...
FRONTEX could operate in Turkey to prevent that. While we are talking about a special relationship I think it's possible that Schengen can be realised if both countries can agree to certain security protocols.
@MarkusS agreed. A special and upgraded partnership is a better solution. Turkey doesn't need the full institutions of the EU, same goes the other way around. An honest, constructive and pragmatic partnership would be much better than infinite bickering between everyone.
Although Schengen...
