F-35 - take it or leave it
Who would have believed it? Some years ago Israel was developing the world's most advanced fighter aircraft, the Lavi, while the Western world's aircraft manufacturers were beating their way to our door, eager to participate in the Lavi project, or trying to sell...
India Chooses U.S.-Built Javelin Anti-Tank Missile
NEW DELHI - The Indian Army has decided to buy the Javelin anti-tank guided missile (ATGM), Defence Ministry sources here said.
The decision comes within a month of media reports that Pakistan had included the Javelin on its wish list of U.S...
Yes, most maneuvers are in the vertical plane, but 3D TVC allows so much more - even maneuvers which were not possible before (refer my previous post). This would be very helpful in a dogfight. Even in BVR combat, 3D TVC can help an aircraft to evade missiles using a combination of active...
There is no denying that Thrust Vectoring dramatically increases an aircraft's manuverability. The F-22 and Su-30MKI are considered to be very manuverable aircraft. How do these aircraft achieve this high level of manuverability? The answer is undoubtedly the use of 2D TVC. Here's what the...
It would be greately appreciate if you could elaborate.
This was my reply to Gambit who felt that 3D TVC will only be an unused feature.
Here is my reply to one of your posts:
That's why I included the concept of using flares in my relpy.
Anyway, in an imaginary scenario, suppose...
This is applicable for all infrared sensors right? Anyway, the AIM 9X can only be launched in WVR, so a pilot should see it coming as he checks his tail. I mean, the pilot will not be caught off guard.
The AIM-9X is no doubt very manuverable and is a definite advantage for the F-22 in a dogfight. But it can be countered by flares and of course some violent manuvers made possible by 3D TVC. Remember that TVC is not the only defence the PAK FA has.
The AIM-9X may be able to out-manuver...
Do you really think the Russians developed 3D TVC, employed it successfully in the Su-37 and MiG-35, and are yet to create the appropriate software to control it? Doesn't make sense at all.
That is what I mentioned in my previous post. We can't really tell how effective these systems are since most of the information is classified and since the fighter is not fully developed. So we can only speculate for now.
I have no idea what you meant by LPI mode. Can you please elaborate.
Here again we can only speculate. Keep in mind that the F-22's manuverability is attributed mainly to 2D TVC. So just imagine what 3D TVC can do. Let's not forget that the PAK FA (and all modern fighters for that matter) will have active defences. Anyway, the AIM 9x is a WVR missile right?
Guys, a simple question. If the F-18SH is selected, will we get the AIM 9x sidewinder missile? Can it be integrated on other aircraft (like Su-30MKI or FGFA) as well?
The PAK FA only had a budget which was only a fraction of the F-22's, and anyway, we can only speculate about it's final RCS. About the Raptor seeing the PAK FA first or vice versa, that too is only a topic on which we can speculate. There is no denying that the F-22 is the stealthiest fighter...
