This neglects to look at the hardships that Russia was going through during those last 20 years. It's not like Russian supplies to their own military were on time and on budget. Heck, the Russians probably paid more attention to supplying the Indian military than they did for their own military.
1) Nothing primitive about a laser rangefinder with ballistic computer.
2) The 1K13-49 sight provided respectable night vision.
3) Ammunition storage is a problem (when the tank does get penetrated, it blows up rather than getting damaged, which is fine in a large scale war, but not when you're...
I had expected that this would be a modified variant of some older S-300 that they had been able to acquire. But from what I've rea about the Bavar this seems unlikely. It seems to be a locally designed SAM system, but they must have gotten assistance from Belarus and firms in Russia or China...
Personally I wouldn't actually replace those aircraft. I'd keep them in reserve. In the event of an aerial war, they'll make great aircraft to swarm with.
My mistake. Copy-pasted the wrong version of the article. Here's the actual article:
And here's some more information on Kontakt-5. In short, it increases protection level by 61%. http://www.russianarmor.info/Tanks/EQP/era.html:
I'm not going to bother looking up how the Georgian tank was...
Please avoid the vitriol and stick to the scientific arguments.
Exactly.
Only if you fly at the same altitude. Notice the density term in that drag formula? By flying at a higher altitude, the lower density compensates for the higher airspeed, which results in the same drag force. A...
The T-72B was certainly a match for the M1A1. Not sure about the M1A2 or T-90 (information about them is mostly classified, so RHAe armor thickness and other parameters for these tanks are only speculation ).
Here's what Jane's has to say about the Kontakt-5 ERA developed by the USSR:
What about Brzezinski who didn't give a damn about Afghanistan and for that reason supported the Afghan insurgency to try and draw in the Soviets? Brezhnev did what he felt was best for Afghanistan. Brzezinski threw Afghanistan under the bus to score geopolitical points against the Soviets.
He did no such thing. He supported the gradual collectivization of kulak-held farms in Ukraine. The Soviets went overboard and tried to force through rapid collectivization of the farms. He complained about this and called for them to slow down. Meanwhile, the rich kulaks, and some misguided...
Like America isn't a big piracy country?
Every student I know here watches pirated movies. Every one of them. Nobody has the slightest moral compunction about it.
A flying object needs 1G of lift to stay in the air. Divide 1G by the lift-drag ratio and you get the amount of thrust-weight ratio that the missile has to maintain to keep going. Fuel consumption is proportional to thrust. At least as a first order approximation, fuel consumption rate is...
I never thought I'd praise Brzezinski but I have to right here: http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2009/09/18/how-obama-flubbed-his-missile-message.html
I expect Israel is going to try to pressure the US to attempt a strike on Iran before election day. I pray the US doesn't give in to the pressure, but I fear that we will.
The "blockade" would consist of land based artillery and cruise missiles sinking any ship that tries to run the blockade. The USN carrier won't be able to defend the entire strait of Hormuz against the Iranian army.
