Unfortunately, I have to disagree. Al Jazeera was the number one propaganda tool for the Libyan rebels. Heck, even the Western media wasn't as bad as Al Jazeera when it came to covering Libya. And now we're seeing the same thing in Syria.

A lot of news media uncritically republished claims by the rebels. It's true that many of Gaddafi's fighters were nomadic Tuaregs. The Tuaregs tend to migrate across borders between Libya, Mali, etc., but they are as much Libyan as they are Malian or whatever.

Syria has its Christian and Alawite minorities who would face a similar fate if the rebels there came to power. Thankfully though, Assad has been wiser than Gaddafi in arming his country to prevent such a thing from happening.

That's the important point. To call them "mercenaries" hired to oppress "his people" is simply a racist denial of the fact that most of these were native Libyans. Sure, some of the racist rebels didn't consider them Libyans, but that didn't make them any less so.

Are you talking about the PAK-FA? Of course they'll use it. Primarily as an air-superiority aircraft. Whereas the Su-34 is a strike aircraft.

Huh? Why would you need to replace brand new precision guided munitions unless you use them? Serbia had always offered to pull out of Kosovo and allow an independent peacekeeping force there, but NATO demanded that Serbia allow use of its military bases, which obviously violated Serbian...

And spent billions of dollars on munitions. In the process, NATO was unable to make any significant impact on Serbian forces and had to resort to bombing civilian targets out of frustration.

Oh and I forgot to mention that the Pantsir-S1 also uses optical tracking, which is invulnerable to ARM and EW. The Buk also has an option for optical tracking, which the Syrians are likely to have utilized.

The Serbians successfully used microwave ovens as decoys for the ARMs. And EW aircrafts will have major trouble defeating the modern Buk-M2E and Pantsir-S1 air defenses that Syria has. Keep in mind that these are the very latest Russian short and medium range systems, and Russia relies on these...
