OK, so then the question becomes: Is Islamist identity politics and separatism a benign or virulent phenomenon.

OK good, you agree that it is an issue of religious identity politics. I do believe that the identity assertion of the pro-separatist elements is bad news. I believe that was the Arab invasion of Sindh, which was defeated by the Rajputs a decade or two later. Islam did not really enter South...

    To all Pakistanis

That statement is not valid, Pakistan's birth process was accompanied by the tribal attack on the then independent state of J&K, commanded by Pak army officers. The manner in which the said tribals conducted their purported Jihad is well known, so I will refrain from repeating it here.

Actually, it is not a geostrategic issue either. Kashmir valley is not very strategic, as compared to say Gilgit-Baltistan.

Conservative and status quo-ist grounds? Surely there are more fundamental reasons why that prescription needs to be resisted?

We should not think in terms of the victory of one side and defeat of the other. When truth wins, all sides win, even those who were mistaken earlier. Perhaps, especially those who were mistaken earlier.

No, the purpose of such a forum is the bring out differences and understand them, expose people to new ways of looking at things.

    To all Indians

I was happy to see many reasonable voices from the Pakistani side here. At the same time I was astounded by the level of deception in some others. Deception of others merges into self-deception. The worldview is tailored to the indoctrination and becomes unhinged from reality. Yet at a...

    To all Indians

Identity is not static, once your ancestors thought of themselves as Dharmic, now you think of yourself as Islamic. The churning will continue.

    The enemy and Pakistan Army

Everybody has a Jekyll and a Hyde inside; Pakistanis will hopefully free themselves from their inner demons in due course of time. Truth always triumphs (even if, in some cases, it takes many generations).

Folks now is the time for people on all sides to show some kindness and understanding, without demanding what will be impossible for the other side to give.

Jeez I thought you had calmed down, but you turn around again snarling like a pit bull. Anyway, ta ta.

Good, on that more mellow note, I shall leave the thread.

    The enemy and Pakistan Army

Why should India do anything when you are doing such a splendid job yourself, without any assistance. Similar to how Pak was very much hoping for Indian boots on the ground in Afghanistan, but was disappointed. But the lack of Indian boots does not mean the Afghan people dislike and distrust...

Congrats ajtr for completing 8000 posts!

Software is relevant for generating Devanagari / Urdu script, not for typing Hindi / Urdu in Roman script as you do here.

Congrats ajtr for completing 8000 posts!

An Indian would not write देता / देती as dita / diti . But that transliteration seems to be very common among Pakistanis. Maybe the Urdu script does not have the correct sounds.

doc, there are doubts about the cover story (http://www.defence.pk/forums/members-club/215731-congrats-ajtr-completing-8000-posts-7.html#post3544909) .... but let him/her continue with the role playing I suppose.

Well the US has been arming Pakistan for decades, nothing new in that. But that does not mean that everything is going as per American plans. How can India be responsible for what started in 7th century Arabia?

It is a valid point. But the dynamics are complicated. Poodles may not remain poodles. Snakes raised to bite the neighbour's kids may bite their masters instead. What the future will bring only time will tell. The only real solution is for the people of Pakistan to recover from the nightmare...

    The enemy and Pakistan Army

Will that stop the Taliban from beheading your soldiers at will? But you digress. The topic of the thread is who is the enemy, and why. Somebody said India is the enemy because Indian forces are deployed against Pakistan. But it is Pakistan that initiates all conflicts. To understand what...
