    Shivalik Class Frigates Thread

AFAIK, M2EM is being used on the shivalik. So it is E band! The RAWL-02/PLN-517 looks exactly like the LW-08 (as you rightly pointed out of it to be a version of the latter). Check out the pics on other indian ships.

That is a SATCOM mount and not shikari! This is the "shikari" on INS brahmaputra!

    Shivalik Class Frigates Thread

Which 2 are you talking about? As far as I know, top plate works in E band while both STAR and 3DCAR are S-band radars! It is certainly not RAWL-02 and it is not smart-L in all likelihood as can be clearly seen from the released images though! Added later: RAWL-02 is the volume search radar...

    Shivalik Class Frigates Thread

I am having second thoughts about the volume search radar. Looking at the size of the secondary radar on the ship, I am inclined to believe that it may not be revathi. I feel it would either be a variant of revathi or the ieraeli STAR (EL/M-2238) radar (more likely). link...

    Shivalik Class Frigates Thread

satcom provides very fast data transfer speeds by its very nature. I am not sure which company has supplied the equipment for shivaliks but selex was the contractor for the delhi class (P-15) ships. I would expect these to be working in conjunction with indian communication satellites. check...

    India's Scorpene submarine programme delayed

Well I don't want scorpenes in any specific way but just clarified what I know about the French position. Personally, I would have preferred the German boat to have won the first time around. I hope the Germans prepare a new proposal which is good enough for the IN needs. Unlike the mesma...

Could be. Though most satcom masts do look like those housings! The fairing is to protect it from the elements.

    Shivalik Class Frigates Thread

I am amazed at how good this ship looks. The satcoms at the back of the ship can be seen clearly as well. here are some of the system close ups from other ships being used on shivalik: top plate radar: revathi radar: barak launcher: AK-630: Klub launcher &...

    Shivalik Class Frigates Thread

Amazing ship. I am in love all over again. The clutter on top of superstructure is way less when compared to the Talwars :). Also notice the use of revathi as secondary volume search radar :)! Also observe the mechanism for heli securing :)! Here is some labeling I did.

    Indian Navy News & Discussions

In the old days, the names for the naval ships, basically referred to the size and capabilities of a warship, with Frigate being the smallest and least well armed to the Cruiser being the heaviest and best armed and destroyer falling somewhere in between. These got superseeded by the battleship...

    BrahMos From On High

I concur! wrt brahmos and air based assets, I would presume integration would be the key. For example, I am not sure if the P-8I's will be able to carry out tracking/ guidance for the system (depends on US and its willingness to allow integration). I am not sure about the actual developments...

    BrahMos From On High

Ofcourse i meant "hot launch" systems. AFAIK, tomohawk, harpoon, babur, etc fall under the same category when launched from surface. Also, if I am not mistaken, Russians have a number of "cold launch" weapons including rif-m (sa-10 grumble - naval variant) sam and ss-n-26 cruise missile as well.

    BrahMos From On High

I would presume that all surface launched cruise missiles will have the "plume" at launch before jet's kick in and thus liable to detection as per your argument. tomohawk... granit... babur... This is nothing specific to Brahmos.

France’s fakement on Pakistani JF-17 Thunders

I agree! This is nothing new as the defence industry will keep consolidating. The traditional markets for the french have been slowly taken away by the british and the americans. This is the reason why France is one of the vocal advocates of removal of ban on exports of "sensitive" technology to...
