Pakistan in talks for 4 Ada Class Corvettes, T-129 Helicopters & modernization of agosta fleet

All things considered, it is actually very intriguing as to why Pakistan didn't (or isn't) continuing with the F-22P line. It could have used the C28A as a basis and - from the initial design level - incorporate at least 16 VLS cells for the Umkhonto EIR (25-35km range). With the Thales SMART-S...

Pakistan in talks for 4 Ada Class Corvettes, T-129 Helicopters & modernization of agosta fleet

The PN would be wise to go for the MiLGEM-G from the onset, especially when it isn't that much of a leap from the MILGEM anyways. The key will be having the capacity to domestically integrate subsystems from various origins. From what I am seeing, the likes of Saab, Thales, Denel, Raytheon, etc...

Saab adds GaN AESA co-dev to Make in India Gripen pitch

@zebra7 The JF-17 Program's Chief Project Director confirmed the inclusion of an AESA radar, HMD/S and HOBS AAM on the JF-17 Block-III in 2015.

Pakistan in talks for 4 Ada Class Corvettes, T-129 Helicopters & modernization of agosta fleet

The Turkish defence minister said 4 were requested with a $400m loan. Plus, no one in the know apparently knew about the T-129 making a return show. I think at this stage officers in the know are just being reluctant to talk about things that have yet to enter the pipeline.

Zulfiquar Class Frigate vs Ada Class Corvette

There's no TF-100 anymore. There's MILGEM Batch-II, a stretched version (by 10 metres) that can carry 16 (?) VLS cells for ESSM (a medium-range SAM). It could very well be the Batch-II the PN is ordering, but no one knows, we'll have to wait for more details.

Pakistan in talks for 4 Ada Class Corvettes, T-129 Helicopters & modernization of agosta fleet

We're in the very early stages of all this, so what I have is just guesswork... The $400 million U.S. loan requested for the 4 Ada-class corvettes suggests one of two things (or both): (1) the amount represents the price of the Ada hull and propulsion or (2) portion of the price, with Pakistan...

POF and Italy have signed defence cooperation agreement.

Because Italy is made up of many different companies. POF isn't working with Beretta to upgrade its facilities, but another Italian company, Sir Meccanica. They're an industrial company that helps build factories.

POF and Italy have signed defence cooperation agreement.

I was talking about the 2016 one (which was followed by talks for upgrading F-16s and Agostas, and buying MILGEM corvettes) ... but regarding the 2007 one, a lot of the stuff on it was inherently low-key and touch to track. Like the micro turbojet, unless either side announces it, we don't know...

POF and Italy have signed defence cooperation agreement.

Well that Turkish one ended up being lucrative now didn't it? Lol.

Zulfiquar Class Frigate vs Ada Class Corvette

Based on that, it would seem there are negligible differences between the Ada-class and F-22P. Could the rationale for the Ada ultimately just boil down to availability of funds - i.e. Turkey's willingness to extend a loan, and Pakistan coming to a limit on its credit tab with China (for the...

POF and Italy have signed defence cooperation agreement.

That could be a choice; it isn't impossible - hire overseas consultants, upgrade the facilities, etc. However, I think the final choice will be based upon multiple factors, not least the willingness of the vendor (or lack thereof) to provide offsets in the form of buying from POF (e.g. gun...

Pakistan in talks for 4 Ada Class Corvettes, T-129 Helicopters & modernization of agosta fleet

I don't think any of China's destroyer platforms are on offer for export. There is the CSOC High Performance Frigate, a 3500-4000 ton design equipped with 32 VLS cells. This platform could be the nucleus of a frigate capable of using LR-SAM and VL-LACM...

Zulfiquar Class Frigate vs Ada Class Corvette

The C28A and F-22P are ultimately based on the Jiangwei II or Type 053H3 platform, and I think there is only so much one could do to adapt the design for current and future subsystems. The incorporation of VLS is a big sticky point, especially if the Pakistan Navy is ever envisioning the use of...

POF and Italy have signed defence cooperation agreement.

@Horus @Arsalan I recall Brian Cloughley - retired Australian defence attache to Pakistan - saying that POF has two programs it needs to get done: (1) a new standard issue rifle for the Army and (2) upgrading POF's facilities such that it can actually produce a that new rifle efficiently. In the...

Pak Navy shows interest in Umkhonto (Surface-to-air Missile System)

Their biggest mistake was canning the Carver, which looked like the Gripen's gritter cousin (similar configuration). Had they persisted in that fighter's development, the PAF might have backed that horse, it could've been JF-17.

Pakistan in talks for 4 Ada Class Corvettes, T-129 Helicopters & modernization of agosta fleet

If Pakistan wants a MR/LR SAM, it'd be worth studying Denel Dynamics' Umkhonto and Marlin programs. The company intends to develop a 60km range radar-guided SAM using technology from those programs.

Pakistan in talks for 4 Ada Class Corvettes, T-129 Helicopters & modernization of agosta fleet

@cabatli_53 What's the ETA on the Hisar-A and Hisar-O? If Pakistan begins to receive its Ada-class corvettes after 2020, would the Hisar-O be ready?

Pakistan in talks for 4 Ada Class Corvettes, T-129 Helicopters & modernization of agosta fleet

We have $700m, but the general point is, do we have enough money to meet all current needs without some kind of help (aid or loan)? We have to fund the JF-17 Block-III, we need new low level radars, etc. We can't spend up front for all this stuff and others, we need the vendors to offer payment...

If we did, would the F-16 issue with the U.S have gone down the way it did?
