Mind Reading is one step further - neuroscientists can read words before they are spoken

There was another member @Wholegrain who was a top notch poster and provided references for his claims. Unfortunately, he got bullied off the forum by some members.

Mind Reading is one step further - neuroscientists can read words before they are spoken

The chemical and electrical mechanism of neuronal functioning have been known for a while and electrical signals from the brain have been mapped before in very general terms. The researchers are detecting a particular pattern of brain activity and saying that the pattern corresponds to a...

Mind Reading is one step further - neuroscientists can read words before they are spoken

Not sure I buy it yet. I would have been more convinced if they had chosen an unemotional text (are they detecting words or emotions?). Also, it is not clear that "detection" (even if we accept it) in one person would transfer to other people. So, it may be less a case of reading strangers'...

Muslims are 7.5% of France, 60% of Prisoners

We can clearly conclude that Buddhists are the most criminal - 4 times more likely to commit crimes than their numbers in society.

Muslims are 7.5% of France, 60% of Prisoners

The studies showed discrimination against people with Muslim sounding names. Also, many Westerners have deeply ingrained racism against dark skin. East Asians are not dark and it is also true that they have a strong culture of education, unlike many (not all) Muslim communities. It's a...

Xi Jinping Isn’t a Fan of Weird Architecture in China

Traditional Chinese architecture is pretty cool. Chinese architects should try a fusion of traditional with modern materials, instead of building boring rectangular towers.

Muslims are 7.5% of France, 60% of Prisoners

Because they are disproportionately poor and can't afford good legal representation. French discrimination is also well documented by the BBC and other European agencies.

Virgin Galactic's SpaceShipTwo Crashes: 1 Dead, 1 Injured

RIP. It just goes to show that we are in extremely early stages and mass consumer space travel is probably several decades away.

Why Modi’s changed approach to Pakistan is more likely to yield détente

The diplomatic overtures by Modi were formulaic niceties which mean nothing. As someone else mentioned, they were more like the new emperor summoning courtiers to his coronation. GoP knew exactly what was going on -- symbolic fluff without substance -- but they had to go along with the...

Why Modi’s changed approach to Pakistan is more likely to yield détente

There are four parties involved: GoP, GoI, IA and PA. Let's accept the Indian narrative that the real players are GoI and PA. Then the question becomes which of them has the more likely motive to escalate tensions. Not knowing all the facts, we can only guess. I simply do not see any reason...

Why Modi’s changed approach to Pakistan is more likely to yield détente

One can surmise the localized construction as a trial balloon by India to let Pakistan know the tenor of the new administration, and to test Pakistan's reaction. It was the Modi administration leaving their calling card. You guys might claim that it was Nawaz Sharif who started the escalation...

Why Modi’s changed approach to Pakistan is more likely to yield détente

See, this whole tit-for-tat business has been going on, and will go on, for ever if each side keeps reaching back months to find unfinished business. The PA view is that this latest escalation was different from the normal back and forth because India started building permanent structures...

Why Modi’s changed approach to Pakistan is more likely to yield détente

That interpretation only makes sense if you believe that India didn't start the provocation in the first place.

US - Azerbaijan relations | A new paradigm

Some people here are angry at Turkey, not because of ISIS issue, but because Turkey dared to criticize Israel. On topic, the Armenian lobby in the US can crush the Azerbaijan lobby with one punch. It's no contest.

Why Modi’s changed approach to Pakistan is more likely to yield détente

It's India's "Israel envy" or "US envy" which keeps popping up. The reality which these bloggers don't understand is that Israel and US can deliver disproportionate response only because their adversary can't ratchet up the stakes in response. They kill 1, you kill 10, problem solved. Except...

Can a Muslim be an Indian?

Let's set aside the burqa since it is such an extreme example. Let's talk about the hijab instead, which is much more common, and less objectionable. I don't see why non-Muslims need to be freaked out by seeing the hijab, any more than non-Hindus should be freaked out by seeing a tika, or...

Can a Muslim be an Indian?

I think that sums it up, although that last sentence is a bit contradictory. Muslims will be asked to tone down their religion, but Hindus will celebrate theirs, albeit as a pan-India cultural identity. The whole crux of the debate is that Hinduism is/will be cast as a cultural concept rather...

Pakistanis freak out over Islamabad U exhibit showing Israeli culture

It's not a question of right or wrong: Japan's conduct in WW2 was unqualifiably wrong and no one can possibly justify it. However, it is something in the past and the Chinese themselves are conducting huge business with Japan, so it makes no sense for others to boycott Japan over the issue. The...
