India Accessing Uranium Directly From South Africa

yes India has been doing research on fast reactors for the past 40 years and has started work on a 500 MWe PFBR ( Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor) which is basically a technological demonstrator at Kalpakkam. The primary fuel is Plutonium and will be used to produce more fuel using fissile...

India Accessing Uranium Directly From South Africa

Most of the Indian reactors are being built in less seismic activity zones unlike Japan .. and also they are being maintained by NPCIL which is govt organization unlike in Japan where it was maintained by a private company which produced a fake safety report of the condition of the reactor for...

Japan backs N-pact with India, warns against tests

no the fissile products released can be detected thousands of kms away too...... e.g u can detect the presence of I-137 released from chernobyl!!! in detector placed in a room made of pre second world war iron !!!

The Fathers of Indian Nuclear and Space Technology

Also The whole nuclear program of India is based on the three stage nuclear program as was envisioned by him. the first stage is uranium based, second plutonium and third thorium. We are still following that path.

Indian Air Force News & Discussions

gogobot the thing is that there is little cooperation between different agencies here mostly due to petty political reasons. No one wants to share their credit with others. They just want to have complete control over their offices ( which they think as their little empires). This is also...

    India English growth 'too slow'

yes have you ever noticed those high society people who even knowing hindi( or their local language) talk in english substituting some words in between with local language. This phenomenon is more common in girls.

    India English growth 'too slow'

I totally agree with u .. this is the colonial mindset due to which anything western becomes right and superior than ours. But I am not against learning english. I think that we should learn english but not at the cost of our own languages be it hindi, tamil or whatever local language...

Indian Civil Nuclear News & Discussions.

no it won't allow to us to use plutonium generated by the uranium coming from outside. The reactors using that uranium will be monitored by IAEA. The reprocessing plant will also be monitored. For our own uranium we have to do reprocessing separately is we have to extract plutonium from that...

India? Another Chernobyl Waiting to Happen?

yes India has PHWR i.e Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor. They require (can work on) less enriched uranium as compared to other type of thermal reactors and hence are more suited to our low enriched uranium.

India? Another Chernobyl Waiting to Happen?

yes I know that BWRs like CANDU also have +ve void coefficient but that doesn't mean the reactor is unsafe as I think you implied from my post. The PFBR is fully safe with multiple levels of safety. As I told in my other post that we have a long accident free experience in operating reactors. So...

India? Another Chernobyl Waiting to Happen?

whatever you have said is exactly right. +ve void coefficent isn't a good thing in reactor. I think the reactor will shut down when there is loss of coolant. As far as chernobyl is concerned, the operator there bypassed all the safety systems and hence that incident happened

India? Another Chernobyl Waiting to Happen?

Of Course. While designing everything is taken into account even a missile attack! India has a lot of experience of operating fast breeder reactors and has an impeccable record as of now. Due to confidence in this experience India is going for PFBR which is of 500MWe.

India? Another Chernobyl Waiting to Happen?

no buddy PFBR has +ve void coefficient. This type of accident is called Loss of Coolant Accident. The reactor will heat up and the core will melt if this happens.
