Bangladesh has two silver medals, two bronze medals and two prestigious honors, and 26 out of 111 countries with 111 points. Asif-e-Elahi, Bangladesh's deputy, has been deprived of the gold medal for just 1 point. The results of the 58th International Mathematical Olympiad in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, have been announced shortly before. Bangladesh has been the best in South Asia.

As per the results, Asif-E-Elahi (MC College, Sylhet) 24 and Ahmed Jawad Chowdhury (Cantonment English School and College, Chittagong) got the silver medal after getting 23. Rahul Saha (Dhaka College) 18 and Tamzid Morshed Roubab (Notre Dame College) got bronze at number 17 The other two Sabbir Rahman (Notre Dame College) 15 and SM Naimul Islam (Amrit Lal Dey College, Barisal) got 14 marks in the country.

South Korea has reached the top spot with 170 points. China and Vietnam are the next two places. America's fourth position in the last two champions Among the South Asian countries, India got 90, 52th, Sri Lanka with number 80, 62th in Pakistan, Pakistan 58 with 81th and Nepal for the first time got 110th.

I am here with the Bangladesh team coach and team leader Mahbub Majumder. Though happy with the team's success, he was not happy with the number one gold medal for not getting the gold medal. But being the best in South Asia, Mahbub is happy. After achieving South Asian superiority in Thailand, Bangladesh received lesser number 1 than last year. Now Bangladesh is number 20 more than India. Apart from this, Bangladesh remains at the top of Malaysia, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia.
Mohammad Zafar Iqbal, vice-president of Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad, proud of the results, said, "It is sad to not get gold for 1 number. But it can not reduce my happiness. I am proud of the Bangladesh Mathematical Team. "He also said that it is very happy to take 8 steps ahead of world rankings, losing the neighboring countries.

The Olympiad will end on Saturday night with distribution of medals. It is worth mentioning that at the 58th International Mathematical Olympiad in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, six participating mathematicians are participating. Under the patronage of Dutch-Bangla Bank, the Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad Committee has selected them from the Mathematical Festival held throughout the country in the management of the light.

congrats:tup:
should stop using south asia as a benchmark if you want to be seen competitive in the world. should target to reach top 25.
Because many Bangladeshi people have low opinion about themselves. They think, excelling anything on a global scale is beyond their reach.Which manifests in media reporting as well.I think, among the top 10 would be a truly remarkable achievement. But 26th position is not that low when we have 111 country participating. Most are developed country.

I do believe Math Olympiad is an indicator of the talent and intellect of a nation. Without any training or incentives, these kids have fetched the rank of no. 26, shows the kind of talent we have.

We should seriously look for top 10 and with adequate facilities, we can even emerge as the top ranked country in near future.

Not surprising cause bangla itself is a very difficult language and then doing maths in that language on top of that should increase cognitive skills. :P
I miss maths, I regret signing out of maths end of high school... If I had the choice... Take maths and go for aviation, aerospace engineering.
Some classmates did it for a year and since I didn't want to delay uni for a year.... My fate is sealed. XD

One of the students missed out on a gold medal by one point
Bangladeshi students have won four medals, including two silver and two bronze, in the 58th International Mathematical Olympiad held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Though one of the students missed out on a gold medal by one point, Bangladesh ranked 26th, while India finished 52nd, Sri Lanka 62nd, Pakistan 81st and Nepal 110th among 111 countries. Bangladesh was ranked in the 35th position last year.

The silver medal winners are Asif-e-Elahi of MC College, Sylhet and Ahmed Jawad Chowdhury of Cantonment English School and College of Chittagong. The bronze winners are Tamjid Morshed Rubab of Notre Dame College and Rahul Saha of Dhaka College.

Sabbir Rahman of Notre Dame College and AM Naimul Islam of Amrita Lal Dey Mohabiddyaloy were given Honourable Mentions for their scores in the competition.

Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, vice president of Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad committee, said: “Missing gold for one point is heart breaking but I will not let this to ruin my joy. I am proud of our BdMO team and congratulate everyone.

“It must be fun to beat every country in our region and climb 8 steps up in world ranking,” he added.

The 58th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO 2017) was held in Rio de Janeiro of Brazil from July 12 to 23.

This was the first IMO to be held in Brazil. However, the history of the IMO goes back to 1959 when its first edition was held in Romania.

Since then, the competition has provided a stimulus to mathematics, offering a great opportunity for the creative exchange of ideas and experiences among students from various cultures.

Congrats.
Beating India twice in a row means BD is doing something very right.
During my school days maths Olympiad used to be popular but I have no idea how popular it's now.

And some one claiming no training for the BD team is delusional. These competitions require a rigorous training.

They are in top 26. ;)
We can send them to @Nilgiri for further training to learn how to file for patenting.

They have nothing to patent....you guys socred a big fat ZERO there at USPTO (down from 2 last time). Papers already have shown just how low IQ BD people are when measured away from the BBS/BAL hellhole (e.g when measured in UK).

You think a highly variable team that does not have to represent anywhere close to the best a country has to offer means something?

Finland scored at rank 84, Norway at 72, lots of european countries in same range at math olympiad. You think its representative of their math capabilities?

Overall science and math output, BD is piss poor at...can look at the SJR rankings anytime, anywhere....worse than subsaharan africa on per capita terms. Embarrasment of a country BD always has been, always will be.

How could the white master Finland and Norway scored that low???
Certainly its the conspiracy of BBS. All non white people should not cross the IQ threshold of south indian apes (vedic Rakshsak).

You have little idea what math olympiad is or what its differing popularity at various years is within countries. Some stay consistently interested in it, others wax and wane over the years depending on the interest. Can check the rankings of various countries over the years yourself.

I mean who really follows say the physics olympiad either:

http://www.ipho2016.org/ipho2016/delegations-and-results/?lan=en

Seen anyone else open a thread about this kind of stuff other than inferiority ridden pole vaulters? I mean highest Indian ranked higher than highest german, we gonna start bragging about that like it means india is better than germany at Physics?...when they clearly produce way more output per capita than us? Plus go check where you lot started placing if you care so much about it.

What stays consistent though is your lack of IQ overall:

http://www.unz.com/jthompson/intelligence-of-5-year-olds-in-uk/

Leading to your science and math output being atrociously low (as already posted)....and this in turn leading to your inability to climb out of RMG-only economy....as if your govt corruption isn't bad enough. Simply need to watch it unfold over time....the latest export figures (at such low base) which BD is extremely reliant on (along with GCF), attempt to money grab by govt, barely improving education (even basic HDI stuff), stifling and stagnant corruption and long term sustainable growth prospect being projected so low by increasing numbers is just starting. Enjoy more of it and enjoy it manifesting just like your 6% walton share of own domestic motorcycle demand.

Yes how could the white master lost interest in math olympiad.
Dude, these kids will beat you hands down in any IQ test, dont just blabber all the time.
