MUMBAI: A group of filmmakers on Wednesday returned their national awards in support of Film and Television Institute of India students and to protest against the 'rising intolerance' in the country.

Dibakar Banerjee, Paresh Kamdar and eight other filmmakers returned their awards while extending support to the FTII students, who have been protesting against the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as the institute's chairman.

The move comes on a day the FTII students unilaterally called off their 139-day-old stir, while declaring that "peaceful" protests against Chauhan's appointment will continue.

The other film directors who returned their awards include Lipika Singh, Nishtha Jain, Anand Patwardhan, Kirti Nakhwa, Harsh Kulkarni, Hari Nair.

The filmmakers also lodged their protest against the killings of Kalburgi and Pansare.

They demanded that the government must commit itself to protect the freedom of expression.

Direct disrespect to the office of the President of India ,they should be banned for further nominations.

De barker ban erji, who is this shlt ? Never heard of these turds, all these are communist & congress sympathizers who even campaigned against modi, and what shitty movies did these people produce, none of us have seen, some shitty jokers jump and we laugh at them that's all.

Most of his movies attract selective audience beyond a particular level of intelligence, I can comprehend your inability to move beyond that limit.

Yeah, just like this other great Bengali artists whose paintings fetch crores of rupees also from a selective audience.

May God bless those who have not been able to breech this limit set by these eminent artists.

These guys used to produce movies where a boy is staring through a hole in a hut for 15 minutes or a watch rain falling in drops through the hole in their umbrella for half an hour and collect awards for killing the intellect of Indian masses.

Dysfunctional families are another pet theme of these guys.

This was a clear case of legal money laundering, you don't need to be Einstein to figure that out.

:omghaha::omghaha::omghaha:
I just remembered Mr beans visit to the French beach, where a movie is been shown where all the characters are performed by one man,

oh, yes !! what a absolute crime, the most heinous sin in the universe !!
It is not a crime to support these parties, when there are people who openly support terrorists, then what is wrong, the moot point is those who are returning and protesting are politically motivated, and they have deep animosity and hatred towards Hindus, all these people got these awards only because they are congress and communist boot lickers, rewards were given for their loyalty. The loyal boot lickers are now helping their masters for gratitude.

:cheesy: :cheesy: The select viewers should have a minimum IQ of Einstein or else they should have a prejudice towards Hindus and their culture, only those people can view their movies and like them, and India has lot of these people.

of course they are politically motivated in opposing the reactionary and hate politics of modi government and the larger sangh.

how else can it be??

the returnees are making progressive political moves while many other indians sadly and foolishly either side with modi government or are sitting on the sidelines, scared to say anything.

I'm not saying that they do not have any political agenda or motives, but we cannot and should not discount their primary line of work which got them their recognition. And given the current state and taste of Bollywood and its audience, Dibakar Banerjee can be counted as one of the better film makers.

I would liken these fellows to sleeper cells activated at right time by their handlers.
