Star Online Report
A special West Bengal court of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has upheld its previous verdict that acquitted one of its troopers over the killing of Felani Khatun.

A BSF General Security Forces court gave the verdict yesterday night after the hearing of the revision trial, our New Delhi correspondent reports.

“The court has reached the same conclusion as it did in the previous time and acquitted him on the same grounds,” he reports quoting sources inside the BSF.

However, the latest decision is subject to revision and approval by an Additional Director General rank officer, also the competent authority, of BSF based in the eastern sector of the country.

Meanwhile, Felani’s father Nurul Islam told The Daily Star that he will not accept this verdict and demanded international trial over the killing of his daughter, our Kurigram correspondent reports.

“We have heard of the verdict. We don’t accept it. We don’t want trial in BSF court, we want trial in international court,” he said over the telephone – sobbing all the while.

Fifteen-year-old Felani Khatun was shot dead by the BSF while she, along with her father, was returning home from India through Anantapur border along Phulbari upazila of Kurigram on January 7, 2011.

Her dead body was hung from barbwires along the border for hours. A photo of that heart wrenching moment was caught by the media. The incident sparked uproar throughout Bangladesh.

A special court of the Indian BSF began trial over this incident on August 13, 2013. As an outcome of the proceedings, the lone accused trooper Amiya Ghosh was acquitted of murder charge on September 6, 2013.

Felani's father appealed to Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh for revision trial in the case. On his appeal, proceedings of the revision trial, held in Cooch Bihar of West Bengal, began from September 22 last year.

1.BSF is a state sponsored criminal outfit. This verdict was expected. With criminals trying criminals under laws of the criminals, what else could be expected.

2. Enough of this B/S friendship. Time to welcome the Nagas and ULFA back.

there is no evidence that body was hung. they were trying to jump the fence, her father escaped, she was caught, and fired upon.

Why do you Indians lie so much?

who is Felani Khatun......

Felani was a 15-year-old Bangladeshi girl. Her father arranged her marriage in Bangladesh. She returned to Bangladesh with her father from New Delhi, India, where the family had been illegally staying. On Friday, 7 January 2011 at about 8.30am she and her father attempted to illegally cross the Bangladeshi-Indian border by climbing the barbed wire boundary using a ladder. The exact location was International Border No. 947, between 3 and 4 s pillar of Anantapur, Fulbari. Her father, Nuru Mia, crossed first. But when Felani tried to climb over the fence, her clothes got entangled in the wire, and she started screaming. Hearing her scream, the BSF members started shooting at her.

lots of bangladeshis and Indians have been shot near border.. why would they specifically hang her upside down. check the picture. does it look like somebody hanged her?
My question is, why bangladeshis always lie... for extra sympathy?

How ghastly these Indians can be! First they shoot this young girl dead, then hang her body on their side of the Great Indian Barbed Wire, and now have the temerity to say we made this all up. That's why we hate you. And just wait till your Hasina is off. ISI, ULFA, Nagas, etc will be welcomed back.

Dont be emotional, it might cloud your judgement. It seems you would rather throw tantrum and cry like babies than actually care for truth.
And dont lie eiter, I just said, there is little evidence of her being hanged. She was killed by BSF bullet, that bit nobody is arguing.
Look at the picture, I cant post it because it will violate forum rules.

But when Felani tried to climb over the fence, her clothes got entangled in the wire, and she started screaming. Hearing her scream, the BSF members started shooting at her.

I feel sorry by these incidents. There are agreements on both sides to catch trespassers alive and hand over by flag meeting. But BSF is violating that. I saw in another report probably Indian citizens of the other sides of border dying more than the Bangladeshis by BSF firing. But defending them we may be supporting crimes. BSF and trespassers are all criminals.

Another thing to note here. See her dress so much eye catchy for target practice. If it was black or grey the shooter must have missed the target.

Why would anyone shoot a 15 year old girl who was screaming?

India is only isolating itself further in South Asia.

I never said thats acceptable. BTW nearly same number of Indians died trying to cross the border, there is a al jazeera program about it interviewing on both sides.. not that its anything to be happy about, just that bsf does not know who is who, and are using primitive methods.

I think they moved to rubber bullets. Has there been any casualty recently?

it happened at night, so ya, thats a good tip probably, wear black dress.

Why fire at civilians crossing the Bangladesh-India border ? Most are illegal immigrants or smugglers not militants. This was a young girl not a burly man carrying weapons.

One can even see the two ladders..which were used to climb the fence by Felani and her father.

Notice the fog in the background...early dawn in winter months..Felani's father must have thought..that they would cross border under the cover of Fog and no one would be the wiser.

Guess this what happens, when you keep your people uneducated..they do not understand the sanctity of international border and once in a while, one has to pay the price.

You can love us or hate us..we do not care..but do not violate our borders.

Why fire at civilians crossing the Bangladesh-India border ? Most are illegal immigrants or smugglers not militants. This was a young girl not a burly man carrying weapons.

It is winter time..early morning..restricted visibility due to fog.

One can not make out...if the person jumping the fence is a blury man carrying a weapon or young girl.

One can not even make out if the person is trying to jump into India from Bangladesh or vice versa.

None of you wonder..why would BSF shoot an apparent Indian national..afterall Felani was jumping from Indian side to Bangladeshi..so in all probability an Indian.

The smugglers usually carry firearms and there has been incidences where BSF personnel was killed by these illegal trespassers.
