I'm fluent in English, Icelandic, Norwegian, Swedish and some Russian (my wife's teaching me). I can understand Danish, due to its proximity to Swedish and Norwegian, but I don't know the words... This is also true for Faeroese and its closeness to Icelandic.

To my understanding these 3 are similar esp Swedish and Icelandic...

Danish is similar to Norwegian and Swedish, but it's also the most unfamiliar of the three. While Swedish and Norwegian are separated only by their different words, Danish also has some different grammatical rules... It's still mutually intelligible for native Swedish and Norwegian speakers.

Icelandic is far, far from Swedish and Norwegian, it's only similar to Faeroese. The difference between Icelandic and Swedish is like the difference between Japanese and English, there is no similarity.

Fluent in English, Bahasa Melayu and Urdu

Understand very little:
Punjabi (from listening)
Mandarin and Cantonese (Self taught from Chinese drama and movies)
Arabic (took 2 semester course to A2)
German (Self taught to A1)
Italian (took 1 semester course of A1)...

Currently trying some Russian and Ukranian from a friend but nothing stays in the mind ...While he managed to learn more Urdu from me :(

Ahh my mistake then....The owner of the house I am renting is married to a Norwegian linguist she was telling me a bit about these...But as usual got mixed up :ashamed:

English, Hindi and some Tamil. I, however, cannot speak my own mother tongue which is Punjabi. Also, Sanskrit is one language I'm very eager to learn.
