What's new

A 24-years old woman who was born without a Cerebellum

God has created a law of nature. Some are born healthy and some are not. This world is run by logic not magic. Unless you associate God with magic.
The only law of nature, still now is conservation of energy momentum tensor. he he he.

Whatever human can not comprehend and can not find a logic to is attributed to god.
The issue is whatever so called laws humans have come up are not completely right and ergo a human can not explain everything with his laws.
We havent evolved much,we can still feel and perceive things in 3 dimensions only.A more evolved being would be able to comprehend more dimensions. And then "it" would be called a god.IMO :)

I can perceive things in 5 dimensions - I'm Nietzsche's Ubermensch ! :smokin:

Maybe someday you lesser mortals would evolve to my level of excellence too !

Well absence of cerebellum would 've effected speech and her fine motor movements which you could not 've judged on internet.

You're right...I think what @hinduguy should've said instead was that most PDF women have a brain the size of walnut - Thats why the most you guys can do is to make grunting sounds & speak like 'I Hungry' !

While testing revealed that she had no trouble understanding vocabulary, the missing cerebellum caused her to have difficulties with pronunciation. Her voice trembles, words are slurred, and the doctors described her voice tone as “harsh.” Even still, the doctors were amazed that her symptoms were more in line with a mild to moderate impairment, not a complete absence.

It isn’t known how her condition will change as she ages, but the fact that she has made it this far is a testament to the plasticity of the brain.

OK, at least this woman can understand things, words, sentences and also speak even though slurred. She is not like autistic or is it? My only worry would be how she will cope with it as she ages? In China she does not have brothers or sisters who can take care of her.

BTW I had to first read wikipedia(not entire)the meaning of cerebrum!!

wow, BOORING

Very sad news and pray for miracle for the lady must be difficult for her with this disability. And its no laughing matter

Another reason why we must appreciate the good health and be thankful of healthy body etc

This means we haven't understood the functioning and adaptability of brain properly.

Ofcourse!!!
And that should be the reason why the success rate of brain surgeries are pretty low compared to other surgeries.

She aint sick.
She has slight issues which i think might go unnoticed most of the time.

Its not cerebrum but cerebellum. :)

The cerebrum and cerebellum, while both being parts of the brain, differ significantly in both size and function. The cerebrum is the largest section of the brain and is mainly responsible for thinking, memory (both long- and short-term), and reason. The cerebellum is far smaller and is mainly responsible for balance and coordination. Both are vital to the normal functioning of the human body, however.

The brain, situated within the skull of the head, is basically the headquarters of the human body. Consisting of four main regions — the brain stem, diancephelon, cerebrum, and cerebellum — it controls the entire nervous system. The brain is divided down the middle into the right and left hemisphere. Scientists believe that the left hemisphere is responsible for analytical thinking and the right hemisphere for more artistic or creative thinking. The left side controls the functioning of the right side of the body, and vice versa.

While they are located right next to each other, the cerebrum and cerebellum are very different. The cerebellum is located at the back of the head, below the cerebrum and is about an eighth of its size. It is responsible for holding the body upright and balanced, coordinating the movement of the muscles, and receiving messages from the spinal cord. Damage to the cerebellum, while not causing paralysis, may cause a lack of coordination, loss of balance, and an inability to perform fine movements.

What Is the Difference Between the Cerebrum and Cerebellum?

Ofcourse!!!

Even i have mild Asperger's syndrome, i have difficulty is interacting while making eye contact, and stammering when excited. But don't face any real issue in anything.

Very interesting read. Thanks!

How could the doctors know that this wasn't a genetic defect? Any doctors or medical students here that can explain? I know the article says that her child doesn't have any issues, but could it be dormant and get passed on by the daughter?

Yes, this more likely to be a form of abrupt mutation and likely to be transmitted to the next generation.

You're talking about atavism? Arent you?
This is 9th such case ever in the world, may be there 're more such ppl.
And nobody in her family has shown similar traits.I think this is one of those rare cases of mutation that has caused an absence in cerebellum.
I am ruling out atavism.
@halupridol is a doc. May be he can explain better.

i have difficulty is interacting while making eye contact,.
Those who have an analytical brain have such issues I heard.
