Former president Pervez Musharraf has announced that he will contest the upcoming general elections from Chitral.
He was addressing a public gathering via phone from Dubai.
Musharraf, who ruled Pakistan between 1999 and 2008, had formed a party called the All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) and had vowed to end his self-exile to contest the elections in the country. However, with only months to go to the general elections, he is yet return to the country on account of security concerns.
The former president was also declared a proclaimed offender by a trial court hearing the Benazir Bhutto assassination case and a red warrant has also been issued to Interpol for his arrest.

first musharraf has to fight all the legal battles, how can he contest when he cant even come to pakistan?

It had happened before , Mir Murtaza bhutto did tht, even he was a wanted person!
Well anyway musharaf still hve a major support within army & peoples of pakistan , I think he is still more popular then of Zardari & Nawaz ?
He has more experince thn of imran!

I love Pakistani Politics. :D

Musharraf will be disallowed only if he is convicted of something. There is a recent and urgent push to convict him for allowing drone strikes. The traditional political parties of Pakistan are at the same time honoring their commitment to Musharraf to not try him for treason, while also preventing an alliance between him and IK by highlighting the issue of drones. One guy started drone attacks and the other guy wants them stopped.

Same way as BB did in dubai with musharaf & the sameway as NawaZ did with saudi royals , still musharaf is far more acceptable in army, which is still the biggest stakeholder in pakistani politics!

IK,s drone protest in US has hit the rockbottom already as romney & obama already had backed for more drones strikes in the afghan-pakistan bodring area, IK already has turrned his back on tht issue ,& silently accepted his unexperinced approch generated by some so-called anti-war segment in EU!
While Musharaf,s stratgy of specific drone targeting of terrorists is getting more support all over the world after malala incident!
Trying musharaf for anything will be seen a trail of every armed forces officer who ever acted under his command & to the courts who also did validated his rule & it goes to all the politicians who got him elected ????
So this all is jst a smoke scren bt threat to his life is more serious , & its a fact?

I think both Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto came back to Pakistan before the elections. In fact BB got assassinated when she was campaigning in Rawalpindi.

He sure will be arrested but he openly told he would have no objection to go to courts and face jail too, he is a fighter and will make a strong comeback!

Well Musharraf is a nice man but it looks like another altaf Hussain in the making. Difference between the two - Altaf has power base and Musharraf has none. Musharraf is truly patriotic while Altaf is not.

These telephonic khitaab wont help you. You have to come back.

again if you think , a former army cheif of pakistan can go to jail , its jst day dreaming!
the reason behind this is the chain of command, who ever acted under them will automaticaly be consider as thier assistants! also the peoples who gave him red carpet, whre they will stand!
so its just a smoke without fire!
& most of the peoples on this fourm dont want see him back , cause they see thier facebook revolution bieng destroyed?

Forget it. An army general will never go to jail in Pakistan. THIS CANNOT HAPPEN. Army is above law. Thats the reason Musharraf is sitting outside. If law is allowed to take its course, Musharraf would have been in jail.

Those who wonder Pakistan is backward and weak, they need look no further than the selective application of justice. Admiral Mansoor ul-Haq was involved in corruption. he was let off for paying back just 25% of the looted money. Mr Zaradari did corruption too. He is still hounded.

I m not in favor of any corruption but the rules are different. The reason is that the authority belongs to the civilians. If you have civilian leaders who are weak as they have skeletons in the cupboard and want to get back into power by making compromises, its the army or some other powerful interest, that fills that vacuum.

If you have strong civilian leaders and institutions, army power will recede and will be put in place where it belongs.

I had a soft spot for Mushy, in my view him and IK would make a dream team together but there is no chance of that happening.
