The Champions League 2012 will be held between October 9 and 28 this year in South Africa and will be preceded by a six-team qualifying stage, as was held last year. However, unlike last year, the fourth IPL team has got direct entry to the main tournament (In 2011, Kolkata Knight Riders, who had finished fourth that IPL season, had to compete in the qualifiers). The six teams to play in the qualifying stage this year are Pakistan's Sialkot Stallions, New Zealand's Auckland Aces, Trinidad and Tobago from West Indies, one team from Sri Lanka and two from England.

The top two teams from the qualifiers will join eight others in the main round, according to a tweet by Sundar Raman, a member of the CLT20 technical committee.

The eight sides gaining direct entry to the main round of the CLT20 are the top four IPL teams (Mumbai Indians, who are also the CLT20 defending champions, current IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Daredevils), Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers (from Australia's Big Bash League) and Titans and Lions (South Africa).

Cape Town, Johannesburg, Centurion and Durban have been named as venues for the tournament, though the dates and venues for the qualifiers, as well as the schedule, are yet to be released.

The inaugural edition of the CLT20 - a tournament organised by the boards of India, Australia and South Africa - in 2009 had 12 teams while the 2010 version had 10. Last year, three teams from the qualifying stage made it to the main round, which included seven others.

CLT20 is a joke, 4 IPL teams direct entry

Well then why were your compatriots were getting happy when Sialkot was invited? And why was your board even trying for a team in this so called joke? Maybe PCB itself is a joke then.

4 IPL teams is a joke. Period.

It's an unfair move by BCCI.................Each country should get an equal representation, not according to the funds they provide. ICC has become a public company, with BCCI holding the most stocks:undecided:

Let me give u some facts :

1) BCCI owns 50% of CL...rest is equally owned by CA(Australia) and CSA(South Africa). So 4 teams from India and 2 each from SAF & CA. Other than these, two teams are invited from England alone bcz quality and standard of T20 cricket from there.

2) Initially when CL was about to commence back in 2008, India was to send two teams only and one team was invited from Sialkot but then 26/11 happened and as a result 2008 CLt20 was cancelled. Later when it took place in 2009, team from Pakistan wasn't invited for obvious reasons and their place was taken by 3rd IPL team.

3) Request for 4th IPL team is more from main broadcasters (ESPN network) bcz they have signed a contract for 10 years for CL valuing near $1 billion and that's why they know from where they will earn the most i.e INDIA as its the biggest (BY FAR) market of cricket.

4) Have u every called Champions League (Football) a joke bcz it also offers 4 places each to England, Spain & Germany whereas just 1 only from a group of 26 countries ?

5) No one puts pressure on Pak or any other country to send their team to CL. Infact, its countries like Bangladesh, Pakistan, WI etc which cry for participation in CL. Secondly it doesn't fall under ICC nor ICC organizes it. Its a private tournament organized by thee cricket boards on profitability basis So, any body got a problem....GET THE HELL OUT

True. This is what we were saying but some of your countrymen aren't grown up to realize that.

Every country should have one team to have fair chance. But since this tournament is organized by BCCI, CA and SA cricket boards jointly that's why they used to have both the finalists of their domestic cricket leagues. Even having two teams wasn't fair but now four teams idea is totally ridiculous.

So why hold a tournament. Why not have a lucky draw and award the trophy to the lucky IPL team. That would make more sense. And don't compare this tournament with soccer CL please. Looks a bit stupid.

CLT20 is not organized by ICC. Its a private venture. If u want a team there, just buy some shares instead of crying.

I agree......................by this rate all of the 9 IPL teams will be playing in CL20 after 10 years:angry:
I am all for our country gaining importance in Inl. Organizations, but this is unjustice the sort of which we used to hate dring our early days in cricket. We are becoming what we hated..............:hitwall:
And it is the worst thing, that could happen to a nation.......:fie:

Nobody is crying . We are just presenting our views on a public forum. Don't know why you love the word "crying" so much.
