Making it the 30th largest military spender in the world now.

What is absolutely surprising is that Sweden, Portugal, Belgium, each have a population not more than 10 million. Pakistan is 180 million.

Belgium and Portugal are part of NATO. NATO obligations probably.

If you haven't noticed our threats have increased in last decades.... I do agree that education should be a priority but do consider the decreasing value of rupee and increasing threat to borders..... What we are going to do with education budget going up if we can't protect the school to be blow up (eg Swat and tribal regions).....

For one Sweden, and Belgium can afford it. I was going to say Portugal, but the recent crises makes it seem unreasonable.
However all the above nations do not rely on aid to run their military machines. Nor do they recieve any aid from the US.

And If you are not aware, Portugal and Sweden both have rich military histories. More so than Pakistan.
