Pakistan puts CPEC in cold storage due to influence from West

No.

Aspen.

He has problems with the nature of investments in the port city not the port city in itself.

I mean a moment ago he was arguing we are not moving fast enough. Now since 2-3 posts he is of the opinion that the whole direction and priority of CPEC is wrong.o_O

Just a small glitch in the system. Sometimes rationality escapes the mental asylum.

You can however raise an important question like how can PTI shrug off their baggage when it comes to CPEC. They have a horrendous history with all things related to CPEC.

It comes as a no surprise that they have managed to stall the project as a gift to their friends in Chahbahar.

Well I spent half the thread answering just that. That is, it’s moving ahead and all the projects that were planned are either completed, in progress or started this year. That’s till the point he switched gear and suddenly confusingly started arguing against CPEC.

Fortunately, CPEC Authority was established to sideline PTI.

That's exactly my point, infrastructure is useless to transform your economy from agriculture/oil economy to manufacturing/industrial economy. Saudis made the same mistake as Pakistan by investing in infrastructure first and economy later.

Iran made full transition from oil economy to manufacturing and industrial economy because they focused more on educating people than upgrading infrastructure. As people became more educated and grew the economy, infrastructure was upgraded along the way. Pakistan needs to follow Iranian model.

Let me give you a practical example of what this difference actually means.

Iran invested big in education and manufacturing industrial economy. They became 10th largest producer of steel in the world ahead of countries like UK and France which allows their highly educated population to build and engineer a lot of heavy machinery and export it to other countries for a lot of money.

Pakistan has not invested in education and manufacturing industrial economy, result of that is firing all Pakistan Steel Mill employees, and a very limited export business.

Why are you such an Iranian shill? Do you know how bad it's gotten in Iran? I have a distant khala in Iran, her sons have moved to Muscat and her daughters and damaads have moved to Dubai. The state of their economy has suffered badly due to their crazy terror funding agenda and subsequent sanctions.

If you want to follow someone, follow Turkey or Malaysia/Indonesia.

Hallmarks of an agenda-driven discussion. Strawmen and shifting goal posts.

I would have not been here if those masks exported to France took the CPEC route.

Or if there were no power and gas shortages i would then say CPEC is progressing.

GoP has sworn oath of silence on matters relating to LOC and the small matter of more than 2 billion going to war in our backyard on our property.

Have a look at this.

Some one should show this graph to him. Look at the difference between petrol prices and world crude oil prices. Look at the difference between the two, during PMLN, PPP, and when PTI took over. Tell me which party is actually passing on the savings to the people, and industry, that will help promote jobs

I am of the opinion that it would have been better if Pakistan focused on educating people first so that economy could grow and fund infrastructure investment organically without taking loans from China. Some people have said that China loans are small fraction of Pakistan's overall debt so I am not overly concerned about it.

If they want to do CPEC, fine. They will pay the price for those loans, especially given the fragile state of our economy and IMF conditions. But their progress has been very lukewarm and in my opinion too slow. Gwadar has languished for almost a decade without any meaningful increase in demand from China. This could either be cold feet from China or an indifferent attitude from Pakistan.

Well you just have to spend few minutes on the infrastructure sub-forum and check the status of each project planned under the ambit of CPEC and name one which has been stalled or canceled.

Previous governments did employ mass propagation tactics when it comes to CPEC.

Unfortunately this government not only employ strict media control but also strict access to business developments.

If things are progressing, everyone would have known. It won't be a matter of debate.

It could have been a lot lot more.

Numbers don't lie. There is massive surge in unemployment and don't tell me robots are making CPEC so humans were laid off.

Buddy. My friend. Just go through your posts in this thread like a third person and tell me if you see something strange...

so that economy could grow and fund infrastructure investment organically without taking loans from China.

Expand on this? How do you want to grow organically?

Keep in mind, our exports are low and imports are high (so no income from there). Tax system was not working for years, and that meant we were spending more then actually collecting. And finally because of the two above, we have been taking loans just to stay afloat for years. Loans that have a interest rate for over 10%.

No tell me, how are we to grow organically without any money?

Exactly let’s talk facts and numbers. Again, which CPEC project has been cancelled?
