Dear Spanish members.... I know it's not right time to open such threads as we are all fighting against Covid 19... hope your country a speedy recovery....

I always had this question about Gibraltar in my mind.... it's a territory which is on the mainland Spain....

A beautiful area with beautiful beaches just like beautiful beaches of Goa, Karnataka, Kerala in India....

But why even today in 2020 it's still a British overseas territory???

How can Britain own something which is on the mainland Spain???

See the map where mainland UK is and then look at Gibraltar and Spain.....

By what logic and by what authority England is happily ruling over Gibraltar???

If this was on India mainland and still was ruled by England India would have kicked them out by now the way we kicked out your neighbours Portuguese.....

Is Spain afraid to take such action against UK??? I know you would say that Portugal is easy to handle than UK as it's not a nuclear power with SLBM but that doesn't mean that you should even afraid to raise your voice against someone's bully....
Please share what's haunting you... what are you scared of....

it is technically disputed territory. the natives of Gibraltar want to be part of UK rather than Spain

Thanks.... but I think Spain has paid for its procrastination..... Gibraltar was captured forcibly by British in 1704 and in WWII it was strategically very important for Britain.... but after WWII Spain did try to claim back Gibraltar directly in 1967..... if Spain had rushed immediately even after WWII maybe it would have been possible for them to get it back.... in 1967 it was already almost 250 years of British rule made Gibraltarians more comfortable with britishers.... now look at map of Spain.... when you look at Gibraltar it looks like a chin (Spain map looks like a side face of human)... and this chin of Spain is in the iron grip of England....

Yes.... actually Franco was a very smart guy who successfully fooled Hitler during WWII.... yes he was ally of Germany and Hitler was expecting Franco to involve Spain too in war like Mussolini of Italy....

Franco under the pretext of preparing for the war literally looted Hitler of money and weapons but actually never ever joined the war..... very smart....

I had heard that Hitler knew all this that he was being fooled but since he was already too much occupied on other fronts so he was helpless....

Hitler had told his close colleagues that if he gets free from other fronts he would definitely teach Spain and Franco a big time lesson.... Franco and Spain was lucky that Hitler lost the war.... But today Spain is unlucky to loose beautiful Gibraltar....

friendly relationships between major European powers (UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain) offsets the need for a small island

as long as US Navy rules the oceans it has zero strategic importance

Very true... and after 250 years of British rule it's not possible to go against wish of local people....

Cadiz province, the most close territory next to Gibraltar is the most impoverished Spanish province, Gibraltar is a rich territory, nobody in Gibraltar wants to be part of Spain.

Spain central government should help more Cadiz before claim Gibraltar.
