Two weeks after its glitch-filled launch, Disney+ is averaging nearly a million new subscribers a day, new data shows.

The $6.99-per-month streaming service’s mobile app has been downloaded 15.5 million times, according to numbers from research firm Apptopia. And people are forking over money to use the service rather than just ride the wave of its free trial, the data shows.

The new streaming platform — which features content from Disney as well as Disney-owned properties like Marvel and the Star Wars franchise — raked in $5 million through in-app purchases in its first 13 days, according to Apptopia.

Subscribers can also pay for the service through the Disney+ Web site, however, and that data was not captured by Apptopia.

“This shows the company is gonna be a legit competitor to the likes of Netflix, despite the skeptics that continue to doubt the House of Mouse,” Wedbush analyst Dan Ives told The Post. “The pricing, the content and the bundling was just a pure genius strategy from Iger and Disney,” Ives said, referring to Disney Chief Executive Bob Iger.

A day after Disney launched its new streaming service on Nov. 12, the Mouse House said it racked up 10 million subscribers — beating expectations and sending the stock soaring.

To put the numbers in perspective, Netflix, the current king of video streaming, boasts more than 60 million paid subscribers in the US and 97 million internationally. The company, headed by Reed Hastings, moved from sending DVDs of movies through the mail to primarily streaming them in 2008.

Apptopia’s research also suggests strong demand for Disney’s $12.99-per-month streaming option, which includes Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+, by showing that the Disney app has dramatically increased downloads for the other apps. Hulu downloads are up close to 55 percent in the past two weeks, while ESPN has seen downloads increase by more than 50 percent.

“I think everyone’s best bet is to bundle streaming services for the consumer so they don’t have to bundle it themselves,” said Joanna Piacenza, senior data editor at Morning Consult.

Disney+ racked up 25.6 million daily viewing sessions over the past week, according to Apptopia.

Damm....But I still don't think they will be able to match Netflix's original content and shows from abroad.

My brother just subscribed Netflix Premium and shared with my family. I don't know what to watch though lol.

Fan service Series are, according to numbers, more lucrative than "New Series".
And Disney portfolio is nothing to be ashamed of and they know it.
and it's cheaper.
(Weekly releases is also pushing New comers to stay longer, ie always paying for a new months.)

And Last if Disney can play their cards nicely, they can do a lot with their Financial behemoth behind them.

As for Netflix, Their Original Series are most of them Average or below average. Only few are successful/good. Their Business model of ONE release ALL push them to produce more and more at the expense of quality. So ppl tend to check elsewhere for something "New". most out of curiosity, But still with some "Boring sentiment" with it.

The only thing in Netflix’s favor is that they themselves are not a big movie producer so they can stay on good terms with all the studios. However Disney is obviously a major studio and thus is going to have other studios stacked against them.

I think they will get there. Just wait until the Marvel series start dropping.

Let's hope it will create a heavy enough environment that will push for even more competition btw every entities involved.
Maybe the quality will be the main focus this time... I just fear they will get into the "Fan service Garbage lvl" But with The surprising Mandalorian... I can only be optimistic.

Apple is also interesting, where Quality is, according to them, the main focus. Even though I only watched one of them, that is SEE, where I can say it's interesting/refreshing compared to the average things we were familiar with on other platforms.

Disney, has itself so much in pipeline, you can’t even think.
An example :
Star wars :
The mandalorian series is airing, while 6 series are in pre production.

MCU :
WandaVision
Whatif
Loki
Falcon and winter soldier
She hulk
Ms marvel
Moon knight
And 4 others in pre production / production.

Discovery channel,
Disney all animated cartoons since 1934 will arrive at disney +.

They are trying however, it all comes down to personal preferences. To watch peaky blinders, either BBC or torrent. GOT on HBO, Agent carter/daredevil on netflix
