Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources issues a statement on April 3 following a report about its nuclear reactor project at the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology in Riyadh.
- “We would like to clearly and categorically deny the claims made by Bloomberg regarding the nuclear energy facility recently set up at the King Abdulaziz Center for Science and Technology.”
- “The purpose and intent of this small 30 kwth facility is to engage in strictly peaceful scientific, research, educational and training activities in full compliance with international agreements in this matter and in coordination with the International Nuclear Energy Agency.”
- “Furthermore, the facility which is constructed in collaboration with INVAP, an Argentinian company, will operate in full transparency, safety and and is open to visitors.”
- “The project is fully in compliance with the IAEA and international framework governing the nuclear energy and its peaceful use. The Kingdom is a party of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and a signatory of the IAEA Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement before starting any activities in the development of its nuclear energy project.”
