1. Violate India airspace (by bombing from standoff positions).
2. Lure them to Pakistani airspace by lowering down speed when they came another batch of thunders waiting for them with BVRs.
Two boogies downed and in a panic their own aircraft locked and kill MI-17.

Because of this courageous act their air force commander was sacked.

The point to note here is that Mr Moustache, who holds the rank of a Wing Commander in the IAF is by no means a rookie pilot, so what was he trying to prove by going gung ho and entering Pakistani air space.
The only explanation i can think of is that PAF aircraft went well inside the Indian air space and the IAF thought they could do same.
