BRITAIN'S first private police force will be rolled out nationwide after securing 400 prosecutions and 100 per cent conviction rate, reports claim.

The My Local Bobby scheme, headed up by former Scotland Yard officers, is currently being trialled in London's upmarket Belgravia, Mayfair and Kensington neighbourhoods.

Private police officers at TM Eye, who run the My Local Bobby scheme, have secured more than 400 prosecutions

For up to £200-a-month clients are given a direct hotline to a local officer, covering up to 250 houses, who they can track on an iPad.

TM Eye, the firm behind the service, is believed to have brought more private convictions than any other organisation except for the RSPCA, the Daily Mail reported.

In two years, the company has successfully convicted more than 400 criminals for fraud, intellectual property theft and other offences.

Demand for the officers has soared, according to co-founder David McKelvey, a former Metropolitan Police detective chief inspector.

He told the Guardian: "You don’t see policemen walk around the streets any more. If you call 101 it’s a 30-minute wait and it is not a police officer who answers.

"My Local Bobby is basically taking things back to Dixon of Dock Green-style policing."

It is staffed by retired detectives and experts from Scotland Yard, the National Crime Agency and GCHQ.

The company has reportedly looked at three murder cases cops were unable to solve - and helped with rape, missing persons, burglary, theft, stalking and blackmailing incidents.

Police forces are becoming increasingly stretched and say they no longer have the money to investigate some crimes such as shoplifting.

But it is feared private policing will see only the rich get protection from private officers, the newspaper reports.

Metropolitan Police Federation chairman Ken Marsh said: "Eventually there will be a two-tier system with the haves and the have-nots, and if you have money and live in a £20million house in Chelsea you can pay for private security.

"My concern would be, where is the public scrutiny if it goes wrong? If they are allowed to go and do police’s job for them, that is a dangerous status quo."

Police officers have become a rarer sight on the roads of England and Wales

Figures show the firm has 36 criminal cases currently awaiting a result at UK courts, and they are working on 60 further investigations in London, Cheshire, Dorset, Avon and Somerset and Essex.

In just six months, investigators caught suspects wanted for attempted murder and rape - and smashed a major counterfeit goods gang using undercover operatives.

TM Eye doesn't charge for investigative services but recoups costs from the courts if offenders are convicted.

The firm’s managing director David McKelvey, a retired Scotland Yard detective chief inspector, said: "We probably do more undercover work than any other law enforcement agency.

"We have a better surveillance capability and equipment than most forces. It’s about catching the bad guys and protecting the public, and we can help with that.

"Police are on their knees, sick to the teeth with what is going on in their job. The bottom line is we have better uniforms, better pay and better support at work. It’s a huge growth industry."

They will have competition from G4S who have links with Theresa May, f#ck that I have seen them making arrests too!

um what right do they have to arrest or prosecute someone ???

so basically these retired police officers sit around all day at posh housing streets in london waiting for a crime to take place so they can call the actual police.

because a criminal would laugh at their face if they tried to make a citizens arrest seeing as this security firm hasnt got any rights or power to physically touch any member of the public be it a criminal

consequences of police cuts.

Tories must love this, they want to privatise everything and make backhanded profits by granting contracts to their favourites?

Another pair of eyes I suppose for those who can afford it. But anyway, we need to boost police numbers.

Another pair of eyes I suppose for those who can afford it. But anyway, we need to boost police numbers.

From the article, it is more like a P-Eye sort of organisation rather than a private police force.

However, I have to say that, this is actually a trend in todays world. Depending on where you are, private security force, sometime even private military contractor (Which most of them styled themselves as Private Security Contractor) works for contract base Law Enforcement billing.

Most popular is conflict resolution in South America, which provide service such as Kidnap Negotiation, Personnel/Properties recovery, and Private Security Service. They pay high price to recruit serving member too. A friend of mine I worked with was recruited for a nice $180,000 a year package and a free 30 days vacation anywhere in the world.

In a way, most company prefer Private Law Enforcement company other than Police because of the discretion these P-Eye firm offer to the company who hire them, no question asked is not something governmental police force can offer.

That said, Police force around the world also started to hire civilian into their job, I work for NSW Police in a civilian capacity...

As someone who knows what he is talking about. This article is misleading and nonsense.

These "hobbies are not police officers. Bobbies comes from the term Robert from Robert peel the founder of the modern police force.

These are private security guards licensed under the SiA: Security Industry Association.

Police constables have to swear an oath of office in the presence of the chief constable and a magistrate, these guys don't sware an path just get a security guard license from the SIA.

POLICE OFFICERS have powers under the Police Reform Act and Police and Criminal Evidence Act.

These guys don't.

These "bobbies" have the following powers:

Citizens arrest sec24a of PACE
Self defence under common law

Both of the above powers are also available to ordinary citizens in the UK. They have no powers, not even to ticket for littering, if love to see what happens to these so called bobbies when thugs turn up and the shiny hits the fan.

Yup that's right, they will be on the phone to the real police.

Bobbies, more like boobies.

US and UK are going down a road which is very dangerous for their countries. Privatising companies is fine, but privatising law and order and even militaries is dangerous for any society.

Private forces will only work for money like 'official' mercenaries with no regards for citizen's concerns or issues.

Why??

I thought attacks by ISIS-inspired people would provoke more police on the roads.

Cuts in personnels and fundings. Less officers mean overstretched forces.
