We have lost Zainab to this horrific act but we can still save the thousands like her who suffer in silence. We are out for justice for the deceased but what about those who are made to die in silence. About 5000 reported cases of child abuse were registered in the country last year but experts say that the number should be exponentially higher and nearly 15% of all Pakistani children suffer from abuse. Out of these in 90% of the cases the perpetrator is a close relative and it is not just a one time thing but happens repeatedly over the years.
I'm seeing alot of calls for public executions and what not but the primary defense should be to AVOID such instances in the first place. One of the sickest habits in our society is victim blaming , when a woman is raped often comments are made such as "uska libaas jaisa tha tou aisa hee hona tha", when it happens to a child then the issue goes reported most times because " log kya sochein gay". Why are there still no reforms to educate people and mainly the children to at least understand the concept or give them enough courage to have them report it ?
