Still no rail to Kasghar, which is surprising considering how connected the rest of China is.

What? Kashgar is connected with the rest of China by many conventional railway lines, but it's true it's not connected with high speed raiway yet, this project is called Urumqi-Kashgare high speed railway project.

乌鲁木齐至喀什高速铁路线路起于乌鲁木齐,经吐鲁番、库尔勒、轮台、新和、阿克苏、巴楚、阿图什,终点至喀什,新建线路全长1250公里,总投资1400亿元
The Urumqi-Kashgar high-speed railway line starts from Urumqi, passes through Turpan, Korla, Luntai, Xinhe, Aksu, Bachu, Atushi, and ends in Kashgar. The total length of the new line is 1,250 kilometers, with a total investment of 140 billion yuan ( $20 billion)

Kashgar is connected with many conventional railway lines with northern and southern Xinjiang, some lines even stretch deep into the Taklamakan Desert

Kashgar-Urumqi line
The whole journey is about 1,200 kilometers and takes about 18 hours
