The biggest obstacle to the chinese 5th gen jet is the lack of a reliable engine so we have to rely on imports, I'm pretty sure a lot of chinese military fans will be very emotional the day we become self-reliant on cutting edge engines. On a chinese news channel I remember watching some interviews about this, many R&D engineers have put their families and personal lives aside to work towards this, they truly deserve the biggest respect from us.
