What's new

WS-13 has been certified!

The writing at the back just means New revolutionary engine conference.

The writing at the bottom means the panel of experts on the engine.

There is no other information.

Where's my Chinese sister Sena Lee? Can you please translate the text for us!

Is it WS-10A or WS-13 that is due to be fitted into the JF-17 Thunder?

WS-13 will be fitted on JFs. The engine has more thrust then the RD-93. WS-10A is for J-10.

I've checked out CJDBY where they believe it's WS-13, Certification held on Nov.7, and serial production will be in 2009.

Can any one tell me about WS13's specs? will this engine have TVC??

The following is some from wiki:

ENGINES: Chinese WS-13 Russian RD-93 Percentage Difference
Length (m): 4.15 4.25 -2.35%
Diameter (m): 1.02 1.04 -1.92%
Weight (kg): 1135 1055 +7.58%
Thrust (afterburning, kN): 86.37 81.3 +6.24%
Thrust (dry, kN): 56.75 50 +13.50%
Bypass ratio: 0.57 0.49 +16.33%

Looks like WS-13 is smaller, heavier, and stronger.

Why in 2009 kvlin? Isnt that too late. i mean if the engine is certified in 2007 why not to start the production in 2008 or by middle of 2008? So that we dont need to have RD-93 at all. It will save us cost because to change the engine from RD-93 to WS-13 will consume time and increase the cost of the intial bach of the plane coming with RD-93 engines.

i am not an aeronautical engineer but 1-yr trials of the engine under various conditions seems to be a good idea. get all the kinks out of the engine before serial production.

iam getting confused here

which engine will be used in the pakistani versions of JF-17s??

RD-93 or WS-13??

At the moment it would be RD-93 as WS-13 is going under trials and though it is now certified but serial production will not start until 2009. But in later versions engine will be changed from RD-93 to WS-13.

I think the first 50 Batch with the RD93 and then may be the second batch will be fitted with WS13 so far every thing is going nice for the JF17 keeep it guys... and push the accelerator more ..

I hope you r right but what is the basis of your enthusiasm!

Russian RD-93 will be used to power the JF-17 aircraft, first 50 JF-17 inducted in the PAF will have RD-93 engine, after that an upgraded RD-93B or WS-13 chinese will be used.
