World’s longest expressway between Delhi and Mumbai to open in March 2023: All you need to know

We all know what is an express highway.
You want to take responsibility of all the FMs on a forum? Very brave of you.

Calling it longest expressway appears incorrect. It is a greenfield project and hasn‘s used existing highways and roads. It may be longest greenfield expressway.

There have been threads on PDF to compare and celebrate length of certain part of human anatomy. If someone wants to celebrate length of a highway - why not? 😀

Europe, Americas and China have superb road and rail infra. Even Pakistan has an excellent north south expressway.
It was high time that India has got down to task and making good progress now.

I am happy, not because of it‘s length, but because it was badly required.

There seems to be lack of awareness about the difference between Highway vs Freeway vs Expressway.

There could be longer highways in many other countries but this one is an expressway. Calling it worlds longest may not be correct.

whats the difference between a motorway and this?

its multiple lanes?

No sure. Google might help.

Probably, motorway is named so as to make it clear that it can’t be used by any other means of non-motor transportation. In India, we still have bullock carts, tongas and other means of slow moving traffic in rural areas, which wouldn’t be allowed on these new expressways.

Expressways definitely need to have multiple lanes and have access control as well as no red lights etc. Basically, once on it, a vehicle should be able to reach till the end, without any need to slow down or stop due to city traffic, red lights or other hindrances seen on a normal roads.

motors ways are expressways because of they have controlled access. Do they allow two wheelers in Pakistan ??

India was late to construct expressways partly because if two wheelers tractors bullock carts autos are exempted it would be more vanity project for vast majority of population who reside near those roads . That is the reason highways were constructed first. Most major high ways are 6 to 8 laned

As of now india is rapidly expanding both highways and express ways network.
In 2005 highways length 65569 kms
2013 highways length 79116 kms
2022 highways length 136440 kms (source:wiki)

Maharashtra( a state in india) first constructed expressway between two wealthy cities of pune and mumbai in early 2000s.

It is only after 2014 construction of expressways both by states and center gained pace. Center is planning/constructing/upgrading over 18000kms expressways in next 10 years( Biggest being Mumbai-Delhi). Part of this expressway is getting inaugurated this month

Uttarpradesh and Maharashtra are forefront in constructing state expressways (expressways connecting major cities within state with state's money ).

Currently, indias biggest expressway is state expressway between Mumbai and Nagpur

As of now 3,670 kms of expressway is operational of which about 3300kms are state expressways.

I don't know other countries but all express highway in China are greenfield projects. Other highways used as service roads. Express Highway have exits only in certain areas (normally every 10-20 KMs. They are located in bigger towns and cities. Other highways can connect villages.
Sure India can celebrate the achievement but stopping calling it as the world longest.
