Wing Reinforcement Makes Thunder More Lethal !

Are these precision guided weapons?
For that the JF-17 carries the REK SOW manufactured by PWC.

No that is a genuine image taken by the author which was part of his article on the JF-17.

Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) has reportedly reinforced the wing roots on JF-17s which enables these aircraft to carry a Mk-84 Bomb under each wing . Until now this capability was only available on F-16s. While most aircraft can carry MK-84 Bombs on centreline station under the belly, very few can boast of carrying same under wings.

If they can carry mK 84 then how many air to air missiles can they carry on dual or triple racks?
Do you know or am I barking up the wrong tree

This mod may be the case but even block 1 could carry 1100 litres drop tank which weights more than pk84 or mk84 so technical clearance of weapons, but weight wise the station had the capacity which is about 1100kg plus ;)

I thought it was 800 Litres initially, however wasn't the first JF-17 loss due to this factor.

Already incorporated on Block 2.
Earlier the JF-17 could only carry the MK-84 on it's centre line pylons.
Then why are we discussing it?

The only part worth discussing is about structural mod to reinforce wing roots of Block I during overhaul.

Even JF-17s Block 1 is able to carry 1100 kg under wing external fuel tanks.

Most if not all Block-1s have been upgraded to Block-2 standards.
And if you feel it's not worth discussing then i wonder why they were once testing these drop tanks on JFT as well.....there's always room for improvements.

MK-84 is 430KG bomb
C802 is 670kg

why they need wing reinforcement while thunders were already carrying c802AK ?

MK84 is 900kg bomb

Which missile is there ? A2G missile ? with PL5-III ?

Is this structural mod being done during aircraft overhauling or already incorporated on Block 2 and Block 3?
Or will this be specific to Block 3s only?

For BVR advertised with 4 SD10. For WVR 6 can be carried 2 being on wing tips. Considering in AD config it is always a mix so you can carry a combo of six WVR and BVR Missiles. Thunders are advertised with 7 hard point but centerline is kept clear to reduce air drag.

The Fuel tank is carried on the inner wing pylon, not the outer wing, you shift the weight away from the pivotal point (wing root) and the resulting increase in moment increases significantly. Being able to carry 1000kg on the inner wing pylon does not mean you can carry the same weight on the outer wing pylon, simple physics, lever, moment of arm, force applied ...

Thunders have come a long way since Block 1. There are some modifications that are not present in block 2 as well but were included in block 3. Entire purpose of block induction was to go back an include incremental upgrades as we go into further block. When Block 2 is due to overhaul it will also go through several upgrades from block 3. Entire purpose of J17 was to have an open architecture plug and play fighter which can easily absorb new upgrades rather than building a new fighter. This cycle will go on just as its going on with F16 so be ready for a block 4 as well.

Well if this is true than when we can see our JF-17 with dual racks for BVR ???

Wing root reinforcement was reported ages ago by messiach. Nothing new here. Pictures of the dorsal side clearly show the reinforcing strip of metal at the wing roots.

Any indication the PAF wants to field a longer range Ra’ad variant. This wing reinforcement opens up the option to carry something approaching the weight of the LRASM.

With better PGMs, it may decrease the need for the PAF to acquire any other fighter platform then the JF-17, to support the navy, perhaps similar to what Sweden had in mind with the LRASM.

First crash of JF-17 aircraft happened on 14-11-2011 ie almost 9 years ago.

The wing reinforcement mod must have been incorporated in Block 2 or may be last batches of Block 1.
