Why Germany lost its Aussie submarine bid

I don't think a military reactor can be sold to another country. France will help Australia if the Australians have a reactor they would like to install into the Barracuda, but France won't supply it themselves.

If nuke subs could be bought, India would have bought a bunch from Russia by now. The best a country can do is lease it.
what about brazil they are building french nuclear subs based of the scorpene

Btw, SSNs are entirely different from the Australian deal. The Australian deal is for SSKs because the propulsion system is diesel electric, not nuclear.
Thank you for your answers.

Yes I realized that a little later.
For the Aussie deal. They had the conventionally powered diesel-electric design - Shortfin Barracuda Block & not the Nuclear powered one.

It's a Brazilian reactor.

As mentioned earlier-

The Brazilians will be supplying the reactor for the French Scorpene.

Overall, the country plans on building 15 diesel-electric submarines and 6 nuclear powered vessels in an attempt to modernize its navy. As a follow-up to a 2008 defense cooperation agreement, the Brazilian Navy signed detailed contracts in late 2009 with the French naval manufacturer DCNS. These contracts included technology transfers and construction assistance for four Scorpene-class diesel-electric attack submarines, as well as one nuclear powered vessel. With the exception of the first boat, all submarines will be built entirely in Brazil at the newly constructed Itaguai shipyard. The first Scorpene-class vessel is expected to be completed by 2016 and to be commissioned in 2018, while the other three SSKs are scheduled for completion in 2022. The construction of the first SSN is planned to end in 2023 with entry into service slated for 2025.

On March 14, 2008, the Navy purchased four Scorpène-class submarines from France.[64] The Navy is currently developing its first nuclear submarine. The Navy plans to have the Scorpène-class submarines in service in 2017, and their first nuclear-powered submarine commissioned in 2023

Under current plans Brazil will build four diesel-electric attack submarines and a single much larger nuclear-powered submarine (Submarino com Propulsão Nuclear, or SN-BR); the first conventionally-powered submarine is expected to be completed in 2017.

So, it doesn't actually say the SSN will be based on the Scorpene.
