Pakistan does not require permission from anyone for constructing Torkham gate: Sartaj
3 HOURS AGO BY WEB DESK
Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz Sunday (today) said that gate on Torkham border within the territory of Pakistan will certainly be constructed.
The adviser on foreign affairs while in an interview to the British media said that Pakistan is constructing the gate in its own territory and does not require taking permission from anyone.
The ongoing construction of the Torkham gate cannot be halted, adding that Pakistan is not violating any bilateral agreement, he added.
He said that people from Afghanistan are happy over reopening of the Torkham.
Steps such as showing travel documents at the border are in favour of both the countries, he added. The foreign adviser said that if any country attacked Pakistan then it would be met with a befitting response.
Meanwhile, the Foreign Office of Pakistan announced that Kabul had decided to send a delegation, headed by its deputy foreign minister, on the invitation of Sartaj Aziz.
Sartaj Aziz clarified that Pakistan had informed the Afghan authorities that from June 1 no one will be allowed to cross the border without documents. He said that Pakistan has not breached any agreement by constructing a gate on the Torkham border.
Sartaj Aziz also explained that the gate is being constructing in Pakistan’s territory and is 30-35km away from the border, therefore, no one has the right of objection to this.
Pakistan-Afghanistan border has been opened for travellers on Saturday after six days of tensions and curfew owing to clash over the construction of a gate.
