VN asks China to end sovereignty violations

15/03/2012 | 19:54:00

Vietnam asks the Chinese side to respect the country’s sovereignty and end all activities violating its sovereignty over the Hoang Sa archipelago, making practical contributions to maintaining peace and stability on the East Sea .

Vietnamese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Luong Thanh Nghi made the request on March 15 in response to the Chinese side’s recent activities over Vietnam ’s Hoang Sa ( Paracel) archipelago.

The China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) has recently offered oil and gas tenders for 19 lots in the north of the East Sea , including Lot 65/24, about one nautical mile from the Tree Island of the Hoang Sa archipelago.

On March 2, the Guard Ship Fleet No. 11 of China conducted a live ammunition drill in the waters of the Hoang Sa archipelago.

On March 7, at the fifth session of the 11 th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, the Deputy Director of the National Administration of Tourism of China (NATC) said the NATC and the authorities of Hainan province are cooperating to expand tourist activities on the Hoang Sa archipelago.

On March 12, on the “Powerful Nation Forum” of the People’s Network, the Deputy Minister of Culture and Director of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage of China said in its 12 th five-year plan, China will build an archaeological centre at the bottom of the East Sea and a working station on the Hoang Sa archipelago.

The Hainan authorities also plan to organise a yacht race from San Ya to the Hoang Sa archipelago on March 28.

According to the Vietnamese spokesman, Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos are inseparable parts of the Vietnamese territory. The above-mentioned activities of China have seriously violated Vietnam ’s sovereignty over the Hoang Sa archipelago and international law and went against the spirit of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) signed in 2002 between ASEAN and China .

“These acts run counter to the common perception of the two countries’ high-ranking leaders and are not beneficial to the development of the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and China,” Nghi stressed.-VNA

Viets are whining on the coral reef now:lol:

More than a thousand years ago, we had thousand-year fights to get back Đại Việt's independence fully. Nowaday we continue to struggle peacefully to get back Hoang Sa Islands (Paracel), even we have to wait a thousand years from now ...

"Đại Việt" or "Great Viet" is the former name Vietnam today.
"Kinh" or "Viet" is ethnic majority in Vietnam.
I think you don't know the Battle of Bach Dang River in 938, because if you know it you did not say that.

Why does viet think they gained independence from China. Chinese dynasties were overthrown many many times, how many times did Chinese gained independence from themselves? Vietnam were part of China, and later emperors wasn't able to or wasn't interested in conquering Vietnam.

Vietnam was just ruled by one of the prince that didn't assimilate back to greater Chinese society.

Vietnam's current paradigm in it's history telling is absurd, by their logic, Yan or Zhao people should have complained about thousand years of Qin rule. And Shanghai people should revolt against their Beijing colonial masters.

what a loaded statement coming from an indian whose country is currently fighting a holy war in kashmir and also starving your own citizens daily so your brahmin ruling regime can afford to buy foreign weapons.

and as for "everyone" hating china, just speak for yourself and those other individuals. don't hide under such a general term like a coward.

about your history?

There are few options for vietnam

1)if they are serious about territory claims then they need to increase defense purchases for 4-5 years to fill the gap.
get western tech, its much better than chinese one and make good relations with U.S as they are going to station half of their navy in asia pacific. But dont be a football in hand of U.S and keep talking with china while buying more time.

2)if viets are not serious then they should accept their hegemony.we read famous quote that "if you cant beat them then join them".Chinese will surely leave few things for you and they are not going to occupy every inch of sea.
