US turns down Pakistan’s demand for LNG supply

Even India . That's some kind of news to me. Who are those lucky politicians ??

Oh!! So tragic.

On topic , you should have shown some spine and gone ahead with Iran gas pipeline. Who knows we also would have joined later.
It's our "fearless" leader that back down, and only due to Saudi bribing. The deal is pretty much dead now.

We can't blame the house of Saud, they have a war to fight. We can only blame our own govt for committing treason against the people of Pakistan to suck up to a foreign govt.

This tweet is a downright lie.

How can Nawaz Sharif have assets in India when Govt of India does not allow any Pakistani to own assets in India. There is an investment ban.

A repeat of history. Pakistan gives, the US taketh away. In any rational person's eyes, the US has lost any and all rights to ask or demand anything of Pakistan.

If I was Pakistan, I'd probably close down the US's entire supply route going from Pakistan, and decline the US safe passage using Pakistani routes. Let them use Iran, or Russia if they're so confident in themselves.

But we know this will never happen, as Pakistan's current leadership is too economically weak to do anything of the sort. The US continues to make a fool out of Pakistan, and Pakistani leaders can do nothing but bend over backwards and take it up the arse, just to make sure Pakistan doesn't go bankrupt.

If this was a marriage, the US would have been arrested for domestic abuse by now.
What exactly is the USG supposed to do?
Start producing gas just to sell it to Pakistan?

What part of the article is unclear to you. US Govt does not produce gas. They have declined to sell gas to Pakistan. They have clearly stated(or as clear as they can make to any but a Pakistani) that Pakistan/Pakistani companies are free to purchase LNG from private US enterprises.

Exactly like India is purchasing from a private US company.

Tajarbarkar leadership ka tajerba nazar ahh raha ha. Woh kya kahta hain.............yeah right......Hor Choopo

Not just a pipe dream, India to set up gas line to Pakistan
Anupama Airy, Hindustan Times New Delhi, July 11, 2014

India’s plans of exporting gas to Pakistan via a pipeline from Jalandhar in Punjab to the Wagah-Attari border will soon become a reality.

In his maiden Budget presented in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, finance minister Arun Jaitley exempted liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports from customs duty if it is meant for onward sale to the neighbouring nation.

“Exemption from basic customs duty (of 5%) is being granted on re-gassified LNG for supply to Pakistan,” the Budget said.

This will set the stage for the state-run Gail India Ltd, which plans to build a `500-crore pipeline to export five million units per day of regassified-LNG to Pakistan, to start work on the ground.

“Its an important project that will help improve bilateral diplomatic and economic ties between the two neighbours,”Dharmendra Pradhan, minister of state for petroleum, told HT.

“Broad parameters have been agreed to and a contract will also be signed shortly between the two sides after which it will take one year to build it,” Gail CMD BC Tripathi told HT.

Interestingly, citing security concerns, New Delhi has put on hold a plan to be part of a `10,000-crore pipeline originating in Iran, passing through Pakistan and terminating in India to carry gas from Iran’s South Pars gas fields. Security experts felt that being dependent on gas coming via Pakistan could compromise India’s energy security.

But the Gail pipeline will be built entirely on Indian territory and terminate at the border, thus, making it relatively safer.

Faced with a serious gas shortage, Pakistan wants to import gas from India. Gail will import LNG in ships at ports on the Indian west coast and then pipe the gas to Jalandhar. The proposed 110-km pipeline will then carry the fuel to the Wagah-Attari border, from where Pakistan will supply it to Lahore.

The source added that Gail, which imports LNG at $13-14 per unit, would sell the gas to Pakistan at around $21.
The cut in customs duty will bring down the cost.

Most people in the US are wondering why we have not learned from history about how we went from an exporter of oil to an importer. Now they want to do the same stupidness with Natural Gas.

Last thing we need is for our energy supplies to be coming from India. If the above holds true for India, why would it be vice verse for Pakistan?

Multiple reasons. I am sure you can come up with them on your own.

@Contrarian, if importing LNG directly from Qatar costs Pakistan $19 per mmbtu then, how's it economically sensible for Pakistan to import it from India at $21 per mmbtu? Whereas the the expansive furnace oil cost us $20.

Please enlighten me if possible.

Thanks.

Everything you said is right except one thing...

Motherlands and civilian topis will get richer. And. Richer. The bending down and taking is only for general population. The military and civilian establishment knows very well to make $$$.

Fair point. But since Pakistanis can not have assets in India, it would apply to all Pakistani leaders would it not? Do you have non-Pakistani citizen Pakistani leaders?

Hoozoor e wala - we live in a corporate world and we desis are governed by corporate slaves who have their mustaches glued with each other. NS has had assets in India for a very long time. It doesn't take long to create a shell company and do business inside India without getting Pak-Istan involved!

Generally India probes companies which have a Pakistan connection.

Though I agree with your point - the laws have been flouted and circumnavigated too many times, in too many ways to think that it cannot happen,

A question though - why would Pakistani leaders invest in India of all places. There really is no motivation. It is not likely that their companies will get special treatment(read favoured contracts).
If they wish to invest, they have the world at their feet - from China to Russia, US to Nigeria.

Bhai India is a very lucrative market in certain elements and our politicians are not the only ones with investments in India.
