US threatens sanctions against India over Iran oil

WASHINGTON: The Obama administration is threatening to impose sanctions on India over its continued economic ties with Iran amid disagreements between Washington and New Delhi over how much and how soon the latter is reducing oil imports from Iran.

India has "failed" to reduce its purchase of Iranian oil and if it doesn't do so, President Barack Obama may be "forced" to impose sanction, unnamed administration officials were cited as telling Bloomberg wire service. A decision in this regard could come as early as June 28, they added, implicitly offering New Delhi a ten- week window to show a decline in Iranian oil imports.

The potent American Jewish Committee (AJC), which holds Israeli interests dear to its heart, raged against an Indian business delegation, pointing to it as an example of New Delhi's perfidy at a time Israel is India's close military and counter-terrorism partner.

While the impending Indian compliance has been quietly acknowledged by some Obama administration officials, the hardline pro-Israeli lobby in US is champing at the bit. At a Congressional hearing earlier this month Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told lawmakers that while the US remains concerned about India's links with Iran, she acknowledged that New Delhi is ''heading in the right direction''.

After being warned by the United States, india has began to kneel and comply with the interest of the US. "New Delhi is heading in the right direction", said US Secretary of State.

US can't pressure their own allies into cutting Iranian oil and they are warning India. India is buying oil for a Cheap and profitable price which is hurting the ***** of some countries. As one of the largest buyer of Iranian oil India should always keep to its interest, buy oil from Iran, this whole thing about the US will just pass. Nothing more than chest thumping by the US president to get some Jewish votes before the election.

We are hearing this for last 4 months that India has accepted US dictate.
But as yo see India is still importing oil from IRan and exporting other agricultural products. Infact India send a huge delegation to Iran to expand the business relations with Iran.

@ op there is nothing to be happy about , just because we have disputes with India doesn't necessarily means that we should take stance against India on every damn thing sorry ' but thats just not the correct way, just as there is a time to fight & disagree like that there are also times to appreciate as well. in my opinion the U.S has no right to stop or punish any country from doing business with another country this is a plain & simple case of the western corporate enforcing their interest & will on others which is absolutely unethical to say the least. India or any other country has all the world of rights to do business with anybody, it's only the vested interest of the petro-corporate led U.S which is wrong here & not India

Is that why you guys were the first one to cut the oil buying from Iran and when you saw India buying Iranian oil for Cheap you bounced back. So you guys must consider them as your white Gods.

India is still buying oil from Iran, and this is a fact. And it didn't cut the oil supply under pressure which you guys did. So I can see which side bowed first to their white Gods out of fear.

Punching bag puppet?? Man you must have mistaken us for the our western neighbor. Because as far as I know India is still buying oil even after the pressure and is one of the top Iranian oil buyers. Or do you want me to pull the statistics to show the top buyers of Iranian oil.
