US Sets Target of Issuing 1 Million Visas to Indians in 2023

H-1Bs and L visas are the most sought-after visas among Indian IT professionals looking to work in America.

The United States is on course to issue more than a million visas to Indians, US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Donald Lu confirmed.

Additionally, Lu mentioned that the current Joe Biden administration is committed to processing all student visas this summer for Indian students aiming to start college in the States in the fall semester of 2023.

“We are on track to issue more than a million visas this year. This is a record for us, along with a record number of student visas and immigrant visas.”

To achieve its one million target, the embassy is adding more staff, expanding the scope of drop-box facilities and opening up interview slots over the weekend. More than two lakh applications have already been processed so far in 2023.

He has also stated that priority will be given to work visas like H-1Bs and L-1 visas. These are the most sought-after visas among Indian IT professionals looking to work in America.

The H-1B visa is a non-immigrant visa that allows companies in the US to employ foreign workers in speciality occupations that require theoretical or technical expertise.

The L-1 visa is an intra-company transfer visa by which US companies can transfer a key employee from an office in another country into the United States.

US-based technology companies rely on the H-1B visa to hire each year extensively from Asian countries like India and China.

“We've also been prioritising work visas: H-1B's and L visas. Wait times at some of our consular sections in India, for these visas are now below 60 days. We will continue to make sure that we prioritise visas for workers, as this is vital for both the American and the Indian economy,” he told news agency PTI.

Imagine having your future rely on India. The US is going to faceplant so hard!:omghaha:

3.5M newborns each year, roughly 2M of them are already Hispanics, now you add 1M imported Indians... The Jews that sit at the top are getting radical at their social experiments.

This is a ridiculous news report, only on Indian news sources. I can't find any confirmation from any US source.

The total legal immigration to the US per year is less than 1 million from all over the world. There are only 2.9 million Indians in the country. To imagine that they'll be importing 1 million Indians per year is not realistic.

Plus, if this was true and Americans find out there would be a revolt in the country.

There are 530,000 green cards issued per year

Don't be stupid

I don't considered this good news. This just lowers salaries.
Gotta disagree with you on this one fam...

New Delhi: America has adopted multi-pronged strategy & stepped up its drive to augment visa application & papers processing for inviting foreign nationals on its territory. Indians in particular are on high priority list of United States as it seeks to ‘import’ fine talent & tech savvy engineers.
In the post-Covid era, US has redrawn its priorities & increased engagement with the world. Inviting people from across the world on work/tourist/immigration/work permit visa is part of its renewed effort to revive its economy.

The US is in the midst of great competition with communist China and if it does not do this, it will not be able to compete properly.

The plan is to issue more than 100K visas every month...

At first glance the article you posted seems to imply that the US is bringing in 1 million Indians per year. Comments in this thread suggest that that's what people think.

The reality is that the 1 million figure includes business and tourist visas. All the visas mentioned, B1, B2, L1, H-1B, none of them are immigration visas. Visas like H-1B require renewal every 3 years. The video said 100,000 H-1B visas will be renewed. Those are people already in the US who will get a renewal. There are 300,000 Indians with H-1B visas in the US. That means that 100,000 come up for renewal every year and that's how many they're issuing. That means no new H-1Bs for people in India.

The number of Indian tourists to the US is 700,000. If you take away the temporary visit business and tourist visas the number of Indians moving to live in the US is only a fraction of 1 million.

The reality is very different from what the headline suggests. It's just sensationalism by Indian media.
