US offers famous Stinger missiles to India

Brig Yusuf's Mujahids were shooting down the Soviets with these ages back. India need not be ga ga over this.

Has anything more sophisticated been developed since then? As far as I know, the US army still has this in operational service, and has not planned any replacements for it. They use a more advanced version than the ones used back then.
 
So India is getting the AIM -92 Stinger, which Block are we getting the Block 2 version is the newest one out I think.

I think he was asking which block of the stinger missile we are getting, not apache. The latest AIM-92 is block II.

So the apaches would also be used in air to air role? What exactly does an 8 km range (block 2) missile do to aerial targets, wouldn't aircrafts shoot the apaches down from much longer distances before they come anywhere within 8 kms of the apaches?
