US Drone crashes in Pakistan- Jan 24 !!!

Hey! PAFAce is correct. This is one of the 12 drones the USA is giving Pakistan. So there are 11 more coming.

If it's US Drone then the army or other special units should go to the scene asap and recover the crashed drone before the yanks get it.

Was it a technical fault or something is cooking? Either way, we should recover the crashed drone asap.

Taliban do not have enough means to shoot them down. They cannot using the existing resources they have. So this drone is either an indication of technological achievement that Taliban has procured or Pakistan Army has decided to get some of them as USA wasn't willing to hand them over to us.

hahahahahhahah truth seker we no need garbage keep there on dust bin

retreive it and give it to NESCOM scientists, they did a wonderful job to build Babur CM so they wont refuse to take another challenge.

just one qes why usa attack drones? because we have no gov there/so who can we bring vericage from there were we have no gov power and you attak there.

We need to recover the wreckage asap. I hope SSW is planning to recover it while i am typing this :)

American generosity knows no bounds. When can we expect the next delivery?

Freak accidents can happen. It could be a lucky shot from a Soviet-era high velocity gun or it could be technical failure, who knows?

I do not believe this was the Army, and claiming so would unnecessarily fan the fires. Firstly, the ISPR or the COAS would have warned against further drone attacks in Pakistan in the strongest terms prior to shooting it down. Secondly, we would not be talking about recovering the wreckage as it would already have been done. Thirdly, all hell would be breaking lose for a possible Pak-US confrontation. Lastly, the tribal-leaders would not have claimed responsibility for it immediately.

And now I must get back to Jets vs Colts. Peyton Manning is getting run over by 300-pound guys right now. Could be an interesting game.

Yeh right, more like the US will bring in another drone whcih they wold have done by now and dropped a huge bomb destroying it. The US have done that before and I doubt they will allow this osrt of technology to fall into anyones hands

You guys are under-estimating how complicated a Drone technology is.

It is controlled by a Station on the ground which gets signals from a satellite which then relays them back to the drone.

Even if Pakistan manages to reverse engineer the Drone....it won't have the satellite nor the ground terminal to control the drone.

Anylist Rahimullah Yusuf was saying drones were flying pretty low today due to cloudy weather, so Taliban shooting it down isn't too farfetched. And I doubt there will be any special US team infiltrating to recover the wreckage, the talibs will be swarming the area. Question is how quick can PA gets it's hands on it.

US Drones have cameras that are designed to pierce through cloud cover otherwise their operations would be severely limited. They also have a radar on board which is the Synthetic Apature Radar which is designed to pierce through cloud, smoke, etc. In case of thunderstorms, they are designed to fly above cloud cover but still have cameras that can pierce through cloud cover using signals that bounce on the ground to give a sonar type image.

This is another example of the utter stupidity of our Media. :hitwall:

calm down, guy. If a guy has witnessed them flying low then what is there to argue, unless he's lying, he's Peshawar based very reputable analyst. And uhh yes the top of the notch technology, there are always circumstances where things aren't going technically as well as they should, it is human technology after all.

Taliban claim shooting down US drone in NWA

Monday, January 25, 2010, the news

PESHAWAR: The Taliban in North Waziristan on Sunday claimed to have shot down a US drone in Hamzoni village near Miramshah and got hold of its wreckage.

Government and military officials in Miramshah, the main town in North Waziristan, confirmed that a drone had crashed somewhere on the Pakistani side of the border but they did not know about the cause of the incident.

They, however, said seven US drones were flying over the town on Sunday. In some of the areas, officials said, the drones were seen flying at a low altitude due to cloudy weather.

An official confirmed the plane crash, but didn’t agree that the Taliban would have shot down the spy aircraft. “There is possibility that the plane might have crashed due to a technical fault and the militants claimed responsibility just for boosting the morale of their people. They often do such things,” the official argued.

He said if the militants could take responsibility for certain incidents in the US, there was no harm for them to take the credit for inflicting losses on their enemy in Pakistan. “We certainly know militants possess some heavy weapons such as anti-aircraft guns for shooting down the plane,” military sources in Miramshah said.

Other government officials, howerver, said the militants had installed some heavy weapons on hilltops and that they might have shot down the pilotless plane. “They have well-trained people for such types of job,” a senior official said but wished not to be named as he was not authorised to speak to the media. He said the militants used to fire at the US drones before but they were never able to hit and destroy the spy planes.

On the other hand, sources among the Taliban led by Hafiz Gul Bahadur claimed they had fired at and destroyed the unmanned aircraft. Taking to The News from North Waziristan, the Taliban said they possessed the weapons required for downing the aircraft. They said anti-aircraft guns were used in downing the CIA-operated spy plane.

The militants also claimed their men were now in possession of wreckage of the destroyed drone and would show it to the media. They said the drones were flying at a low altitude and shots were fired at one of the drones from anti-aircraft guns installed on a mountain peak.

“It is our big success against our enemy today. Now they will shoot down more such planes,” an excited militant commander told The News by phone. If true, it would be the second US spy aircraft downed in the tribal areas of Pakistan so far.

Earlier in September 2008, the Taliban had claimed shooting down a US drone in South Waziristan. Later, the US forces in Afghanistan confirmed that their spy plane had crashed in the area.

So this is how they give us the armed drones? By crashing it in Waziristan?

Not entirely unreasonable.

The US "accidently" crashes a drone, thereby giving the technology to Pakistan without the Indians throwing a tantrum. ;)
