Agartala, Sep 1 (IANS) The US government has decided to deploy over half of its naval fleet in the Indian Ocean and South China Sea to take on China, Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) politburo member Sitaram Yechury said here Saturday.

"The US became frightened following the growth and hence decided to deploy 60 percent of its naval fleet and additional strength in Indian Ocean and South China Sea to deal with China," Yechury told a gathering here.

"Realising its future economic fate, the US has also been trying to grab oil and natural gas resources of this region besides West Asia, Arab countries and others," he said, addressing a function to mark the birth centenary of Leftist leader and first CPI-M chief Putchalapalli Sundarayya.

On the coal block allocation issue, which had paralysed parliament for several days, Yechury alleged that both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress have done "match-fixing" on the issue and thus both the parties does not want to discuss it in parliament.

He said that there are lots of irregularities have taken place in the coal block allocation.

"The UPA (United Progressive Alliance) and BJP led governments arbitrarily had allocated coal blocks without proper auctions."

Demanding cancellation of the licences and coal block allocation, the CPI-M leader asked the government to disclose every detail on the urgent national issue to the people of the country.

"Some people saying that Left parties have been removed from power in West Bengal and Kerala, how it would survive in Tripura. The Left parties would not only keep its government in the next year's assembly polls in Tripura, but would also come back power in the other two states too," the CPI-M politburo member said.

CPI-M leader Gautam Das also spoke in the gathering held at the Agartala town hall.

The 20th Congress of the CPI-M, held in Kozhikode in Kerala, had decided to hold a year-long observance of the birth centenary of Sundarayya from May 1.

Sundarayya was the general secretary of the CPI-M from its inception in 1964 and played a major role in establishing the party as a leading force in the Left movement in the country.

the US govt has decided to deploy, but has the indian govt allowed the US to deploy its navy in INDIAN ocean?
aside frm that looks like left guy didnt get his share of bribe and started sprouting in media

i dont think india would approve of this..of course, it is US's prerogative anyway...but traditionally the IOR has been the hegemony of the indian navy

I dint think India has ever played this game before hence I dint believed they will play it now or in the near future.

Bhaiya ji......Indian Jurisdiction extends to Maximum 200 nautical miles from our coast line......after that it is International waters.....anyone can deloy its navy there....even pakistan can do so.

After converting WB and Kerala into mini Pak and destroying these states economy, these leftist loonies want India to be completely surrounded and destroyed by China.
More than Pak and China it these leftist losers in our universities, media and bureaucracy and politics that threat to India's prosperity and stability.

The US already has a naval base in IOR since many years ago. They could probably be increasing
the force levels there. I don't think the PLAN is capable enough to challenge the USN before 2040.
PLAN's capabilities in the IOR are extremely primitive. I'm sure Sri Lankan Navy can challenge their
strength here. IN is not even required, let alone USN.

China is favourite to this guy but he hate Israel. He is the MP who has made most foreign trip last year from tax payers money.

To take on China is mere conjecture...more trade and vital resources=more need for navy

India's jurisdiction extends TWELVE nautical miles, and that is true for any country. Beyond that, it is considered international waters. Outside that zone of twelve nautical miles, innocent passage is allowed for any vessel.

Territorial waters - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A slight modification. Beyond that 12 miles, it is EEZ upto 200 miles....and innocent passage is allowed in EEZ.

Beyond that it is international waters.

An exclusive economic zone extends from the outer limit of the territorial sea to a maximum of 200 nautical miles (370.4 km) from the territorial sea baseline, thus it includes the contiguous zone.[3] A coastal nation has control of all economic resources within its exclusive economic zone, including fishing, mining, oil exploration, and any pollution of those resources. However, it cannot prohibit passage or loitering above, on, or under the surface of the sea that is in compliance with the laws and regulations adopted by the coastal State in accordance with the provisions of the UN Convention, within that portion of its exclusive economic zone beyond its territorial sea.

The point is we cannot dictate the terms in International waters. Any country can delpoy its warships close to US waters...(If they really have guts to do so) ;)
