The US Army, in collaboration with the Missile Defense Agency, has successfully completed a tracking exercise involving the terminal high altitude area defence (THAAD) system.

Identified as Flight Test Other 35 (FTX-35), the THAAD test was carried out using a short-range ballistic missile (SRBM) target.

The SRBM target has been developed and built by Kratos Defense & Security Solutions’ Space & Missile Defense Systems division, and government and industry partners.

During the test, the single-stage target was launched from the southern end of the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico before it was acquired and tracked by the THAAD system.
"Part of ballistic missile defence system, the US Army’s THAAD solution has been developed to defeat short and medium-range ballistic missiles in the terminal phase."

The tracking exercise was also conducted to demonstrate interoperability between the THAAD technology and the Patriot ballistic missile defence systems.

Kratos also deployed its personnel, who participated in mission planning, flight performance safety analysis, rocket and payload assembly, payload testing, vehicle build-up and launch operations in order to successfully conduct the target launch.

Kratos Space & Missile Defense Systems Division vice-president Josh Peterson said: “We couldn’t be prouder of the contribution our Kratos team is making to national defence by providing the most responsive, reliable and affordable target systems available to test our nation’s ballistic missile defence assets.

“Kratos is committed to enabling robust testing of our country’ s ballistic missile defence systems by providing the most capable and lowest cost target solutions to the US Department of Defence.”

*I am posting this article here because it is relevant to the Saudi delivery dates of the system.. these tests were delaying the deliveries, and now with the end of the tests.. they might start this year or 2019..
