@ "Maoist movement which had been raging in West Bengal, Bihar, Orissa, Jharkand, Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh, has expanded to Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. In the recent months, Maoist insurgency has intensified enveloping new areas. Now, it is a popular movement which has massive support of people for its ideology.
Notably, Maoist movement has become a violent struggle because of the use of undue force by the Indian security forces. In this regard, on October 31, 2009, The New York Times wrote, “India’s Maoist rebels are now present in 20 states and have evolved into a potent insurgency. In the last four years, the Maoists have killed more than 900 Indian security officers…violence erupts almost daily.” The Times explained, “Indian leaders are now preparing to deploy nearly 70,000 paramilitary officers for a prolonged counterinsurgency campaign to hunt down the guerrillas in some of the country’s most rugged terrain…India’s rapid economic growth has made it an emerging global power but also deepened stark inequalities in society. Maoists accuse the government of trying to push tribal groups off their land to gain access to raw materials and have sabotaged roads, bridges and even an energy pipeline.”

@ BBC had reported on October 12, 2009, “In response to the atrocities of the Indian police, Maoist rebels had blown up culverts and cut electricity to railways in various regions during two-day strike.”
Naxalite insurgency known as Red Corridor has become so popular that India is actively considering shifting 23 battalions of para-military forces from occupied Kashmir to the Maoist affected areas. While on the one hand, Indian rulers realise the real causes of Maoist uprising, but still accuse China of backing the Maoist guerrilla warfare. Some Indian high officials misperceive that China supplies armes and ammuniton to the Maoists. With the covert support of Indian secret agency, RAW, Indians also propagate that there are secret training camps in China, which teach tactics of guerrilla warfare to the Maoists, and then they are being despatched to India."

@ "On September 21, 2009, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had admitted, saying, Maoist “insurgency is the single biggest threat to India’s security…his country is losing the battle against Maoist rebels…violence is increasing…affects a third of all districts” and “Maoists have growing appeal among a large section of Indian society including tribal communities, the rural poor and the intelligentsia.”

20 states?? are you kidding from where you bring kerala? its 7 states not 20 states. im living andhra pradesh. almost maoists problem were cleared here.

You are assuming too much. you think chinese navy will be stronger in bay of bengal? have you even seen IN fleet strength? and as far as land goes, you are the who is surrounded by three sides and facing world's third largest Army force excluding all para deployed.. you seriously think you'll stand a chance? apart from that, only manpower doesn't help it needs to be backed with technology i.e billions of worth of weapons.. there's huge gap.

You won't have a chance until & unless chinese get involved and fight a full fledged war. but that is next to impossible, they have too much to lose to fight a nuke-armed state. and that too for BD? it's never gonna happen.

Look at the map. BoB is strategically located. It is important for all the big powers including USA and China. No other country will EVER allow India to dominate over the east-west sea lanes that crisscross the BoB.

So, do not assume any supremacy over the Bay only because BD is a small country. But, of course, Indians live in their fictitious world, where their ragtag country dominates even the far stars in the sky.

Ya ya, BD will take on Indian army. Sure. India is a major player in BOB. It wouldn't allow any other major anywhere close to it. Lets see who can counter it. China and US would never challenge India so close to its territories.

*facepalm*

Before it was ULFA in India's northeast, and now it's Maoists? lol...

@ With the dispute over maritime boundary still to be settled, which will affect Bangladesh’s
share of the oceans and its resources, Bangladesh cannot afford to be complacent about India’s growing naval might and its readiness to force an issue if need be. Under this changed circumstance, presence of the navies of the major power can and does serve as a check on the ambitions of the regional navies, and this can only be to Bangladesh’s interest. By the
same token, the conversion of Diego Garcia to an American naval base is a necessary deterrent to regional naval ambitions and provides at least psychological security to countries like Singapore, Bangladesh, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia among many others. Thus Bangladesh should carefully weigh its interests in the context of regional realities and adopt policies regarding the Indian Ocean and the law of the Seas accordingly.

Much of the information presented in the article are outdated. That is, the Cold War era. It's been 20 years since it ended!

However, US interests in Bangladesh are still valid when it comes to countering Chinese influence from the US POV.

Right now at present, India is becoming increasingly important for US strategy in South Asia and beyond. Americans politicians are generally extremely anti-China. They are scared **** of China. They just want to use the SA region as a bait against China.

I believe the best stance for Bangladesh is a neutral one, and such that it doesn't directly challenge India or China or even the USA. However, that does not mean Bangladesh cannot speak for its rights. It has every right to. These things should be addressed according to International Law and whatever suits best for Bangladesh's interests. The issues surrounding BoB is one example.

The USA and the West in general are important partners for Bangladesh since they are the number one destinations for Bangladesh's various exports. The USA donating the four C-130s to Bangladesh was a very generous thing they did. They don't normally do that. I'd say this is a token of appreciation for Bangladesh's participation in Operation Desert Storm and its contribution to UN peacekeeping missions.

But one thing is certain right now, the American politicians are scared **** of China.

The latter can end your entire military in a few days if it really wanted to.
