European Union Affairs Minister Volkan Bozkır has sent letters to senior European Parliament figures, urging them to consider proposals to amend an upcoming report on Turkey, warning that Ankara has “sensitivities over three topics in particular.”

A planned vote on approving the report on Turkey on May 21 was postponed because of the lack of time for political groups in the European Parliament to discuss proposals for amendments.

In letters sent to European Parliament President Martin Schulz, Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Elmar Brok, and the leaders of party groups in the parliament, Bozkır expressed Turkey’s concerns about some amendment proposals in the report, which will be voted on in June.

He stressed that any mention in the report regarding the European Parliament’s April 15 resolution recognizing the 1915 mass killing of Ottoman Armenians as genocide, or any call to exclude the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party(PKK) from the EU’s list of terrorist organizations, would “not be acceptable” for Turkey, diplomatic sources said.

In his letter dated June 1, Bozkır also said any call to block opening new negotiation chapters for Turkey, or to lift financial assistance to Turkey, would make the report “unacceptable” for Ankara.

Bozkır added that the report should not include a “one-sided” perspective that could negatively influence the ongoing talks for reunification of Cyprus, according to the sources.

The European Parliament adopted the Annual Report on Human Rights and Democracy in the World 2013 and detailed the EU’s policy on the matter on March 12, calling on EU member states to recognize the 1915 killings as “genocide.”

The problem of Europe is they can not have Muslim country in thier ranks. They have over thousand years fought against Islam and lost their territories. They are still haunted the Moors took over Spain and other Christian lands.

They tell the history of Europe by naming this period "The Dark Ages". Though for the Muslim's and Islam this was the time of joy and happiness. This was the "Golden Age of Islam" as mention in Islamic history.

Turkey should realise this they have fought the Europeans for a very long time by now they should have under stood they are never going to be considered as Europeans.

Mate, i didn't get this ....are we taking money from EU ? :undecided:

Largest single beneficiary for the past few years, as far as i can tell. From 2007, ~3 bill.$ a year.

EU Aid Explorer - Development Atlas - European Commission

^^ where it says "select a donor" pick, "EU Institutions" make it process and scroll down. You can also select a year.

http://www.odi.org/sites/odi.org.uk/files/odi-assets/publications-opinion-files/8959.pdf

and prospects look the same for 2014-2020:

EU allocations for IPA 2014-2020: €4,453.9 million (not including the allocation for Cross-border Cooperation)

European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations - Turkey - financial assistance under IPA II - European Commission

I think this money is for the refugee influx from Syria.

Since the beginning of the Syrian crisis, the European Union has contributed 187.5 million euros to support refugees in Turkey fleeing the bloody war.

I trust you can make the necessary deductions from the numbers above.

''The EU will provide pre-accession assistance for Turkey in the amount of 4.4 billion euros covering the period of 2014-2020.
EU will support reforms in the 'enlargement countries' with financial help throughout the accession process for a period of seven years. The EU Commission has a budget of 11 billion euros for the pre-accession funds, dedicating the largest share of resources to Turkey among the beneficiaries.
The pre-accession assistance promotes structural reforms which transform a given sector and bring it up to EU standards.''

Turkey can't spend what EU assists on other purposes but EU affairs so does that mean Turkey doesn't want to spend its own money on EU affairs?

Here it should be noted that the amount in question here, is probably not the total amount, but just the allotment of funds under the IPA (premembership aid), which is just one of the programmes of EU institutions. There are also other channels and programmes through which such aid is delivered.

As for your question at the end, my personal opinion is that Erdogan loves funds intended for some bridge or w/e but probably loathes funds intended building of somewhat transparent institutions.

Warped history view. Europeans have lost their colonies. But not to the Moors or some other non-Christian conqueror.

They are called the dark ages for a reason unrelated to Islamic countries. The Dark Ages is a historical periodization used originally for the Middle Ages, which emphasizes the cultural and economic deterioration that supposedly occurred in Western Europe following the decline of the Roman Empire.

Europe is a continent that comprises the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia. It is generally divided from Asia by the watershed divides of the Ural and Caucasus Mountains, the Ural River, the Caspian and Black Seas, and the Bosporus waterway connecting the Black and Aegean Seas.
Europe is bordered by the Arctic Ocean to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the west, the Mediterranean Sea to the south, and the Black Sea and its connected waterways to the southeast. Yet the borders of Europe—a concept dating back to classical antiquity—are arbitrary, as the primarily physiographic term "continent" also incorporates cultural and political elements.

Eurasia is the combined continental landmass of Europe and Asia The division between Europe and Asia as two different continents is a historical and cultural construct, with no clear physical separation between them; Physiographically, Eurasia is a single continent.[3] The concepts of Europe and Asia as distinct continents date back to antiquity and their borders are geologically arbitrary, with the Ural and Caucasus ranges being the main delimiters between the two. Eurasia is connected to Africa at the Suez Canal, and Eurasia is sometimes combined with Africa as the supercontinent Afro-Eurasia. In Western Europe when political scientists talk about “Eurasia”, they generally mean Russia (including Ukraine) integrated into Europe, economically, politically, and even militarily. The Russian concept of “Eurasia” is very different from the European one. It is a view that has older roots than the European one - not surprisingly, considering Russia's geographic position[citation needed]. Russian politologists traditionally view Russia itself, being both European and Asian, as “Eurasian.”

Capital of Byzantine Empire was lost... You can not deny.
Moors were rulers of Spain... You can not Deny.

Roman Empire decline was due to ??
Who these lands were lost too?
The technological advantage of Roman Empire was lost to whom?

We have all read the History that is sourced from Christian Authors published by European Publishers.

After this period "The Renaissance" which is known to all of us started in Rome. But recent documentaries on various European History programs have said that it was started by those students and scholars who studied in Spain and Baghdad. The scholars from Baghdad ran with what they could save when the Mongols invaded.

Now before one can argue history should also be considered in light who is writing. Is it the loosing side or the victorious.

I really like the line from the movie "Kingdom Of Heaven"
What is Jerusalem worth? Nothing... Every thing...

Suez Canal is a vital point because it not just divides Africa with Asia but also divides Egypt.

Continental land masses are classified because they are situated on Tectonic plates.

Don't need to.
1) Byzantine Empire aka or Eastern Roman Empire, was the predominantly Greek-speaking continuation of the eastern part of the Roman Empire during Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages. Not anywhere near (all or even most of) EUROPE as relevant today. i.e. WHO CARES (HINT: WE DON"T)
2) SPAIN is not (all or even most of) EUROPE as relevant today. i.e. WHO CARES (HINT: WE DON"T)
3) GLOBAL EUROPEAN empires arose AFTER

Roman Empire decline was due to ??

The technological advantage of Roman Empire was lost to whom?
The Roman Empire began to disintegrate in the early 5th century as Germanic migrations and invasions overwhelmed the capacity of the Empire to assimilate the migrants and fight off the invaders. The Romans were successful in fighting off all invaders, most famously Attila the Hun, though the Empire had assimilated so many Germanic peoples of dubious loyalty to Rome that the Empire started to dismember itself. Most chronologies place the end of the Western Roman Empire in 476, when Romulus Augustulus was forced to abdicate to the Germanic warlord Odoacer.By placing himself under the rule of the Eastern Emperor, rather than naming himself Emperor (as other Germanic chiefs had done after deposing past Emperors), Odoacer ended the Western Empire by ending the line of Western Emperors. The eastern Empire exercised diminishing control over the west over the course of the next century. The empire in the East — known today as the Byzantine Empire, but referred to in its time as the "Roman Empire" or by various other names — ended in 1453 with the death of Constantine XI and the fall of Constantinople to the Ottoman Turks

SO WHAT?

Mmm, a point of view which kind of contradicts the role of SCIENCE. Which is funny, considering who supposedly brought SCIENCE to us dumb and barbaric Germanic Tribes....

The canal itself is irrelevant. It just happens to have been dug there where the connection between plates very small. Where else would you dig it.

Ankara to return EP report on Turkey: Turkish EU Minister

Ankara will return the European Parliament (EP) report on Turkey, the European Union affairs minister said.

“We don’t accept the report and will return it,” Volkan Bozkır told reporters on June 10.

The Foreign Ministry also stated that the EP reports is one of the most “unfortunate” decisions taken by the body.

More than half of the amendment proposals for Turkey on the report have taken place in the text, the minister said.

“The EP report is merely additions to the progress reports by the European Commission. What was lacking in the progressive report was added to the EP report,” he said.

A reference to a previous EP resolution on the events of 1915 was added to EP’s Turkey Progress Report at the last minute, the minister said. The 1915 events refer to the last years of the Ottoman Empire, when Ottoman forces reportedly killed or deported hundreds of thousands of Armenians living throughout Turkey.

Armenians and people around the world have characterized these events as genocide.

“On the grounds of this reference, we find this report unacceptable. It will be returned back to EP by our Permanent Rep to the EU in Brussels,” he stated.

Turkey has never accepted and will never accept that the events of 1915 be named as genocide, which has no legal and historical base, said Bozkır.

“The EP proved it has no broad vision. It does not help to bring Turkey and the EU closer,” Bozkır said, adding that “fortunately” the EP doesn’t speak on behalf of the EU.

“The EP’s report on Turkey does not reflect the real situation in Turkey-EU relations,” he said.

I am no pro-Europe but here's just facts.
Also how many countries in Europe have the same or less population than the East Thrace? A lot.

Greece (just a little less), Czech Republic, Portugal, Hungary, Sweden, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, Finland, Serbia, Norway, Bulgaria, Slovakia, etc...

Spanish enclave in North Africa:

Land: 30.8 sq km
Population: around 162,000 (0,33% of Spain)

East Thrace (European Turkey):

Land: 23.764 sq km
Population: 10,620,739 (12% of Turkey)
