A total of 25 Turkish firms are set to take part in Pakistan’s 10th International Defense Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) in a strong showing for Turkey’s growing defense industry.

The 10th International Defense Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) will be held at Karachi Expo Centre from Nov. 27 to Nov. 30, 2018.

IDEAS 2018, being the most strategically important event of the region, will once again bring together all the industry's players across the globe to showcase the latest technological innovations.

Four days of the show are exclusively for trade visitors and high official defense delegates.

The firms will participate under the leadership of the Turkey’s Defense Industry Ministry and the Defense Industry Exporters’ Association.

The “Turkish National Pavilion” will cover over 1,750 square meters, one of the largest at the Karachi Expo.

In addition to meet local needs in Pakistan, representatives of the Turkish defense industry aim to introduce, market and ink sale deals to modernize and strengthen the armed forces of participating African and regional countries.

In July this year, Ankara won a multibillion-dollar tender to supply four corvettes to the Pakistan Navy -- a deal dubbed as the biggest export for Turkey’s defense industry in history by then-Defense Minister Nurettin Canikli.

In May 2017, Turkish and Pakistani defense companies struck another deal for construction of four Turkish Ada class MILGEM (National Ship) corvettes.

According to the agreement, two ships will be built in Istanbul and two others in Karachi.

Back in June, Turkey and Pakistan signed an agreement on the purchase for 30 of Turkey’s T129 Advanced Attack and Tactical Reconnaissance Helicopters.

Thus, the largest single export in the history of the Turkish defense industry had been inked.

"Contract negotiations on T129 ATAK helicopters between Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) and the Pakistani Ministry of Defense Production were finalized," the under secretariat said in a statement.

The T129 ATAK helicopter was developed by the Turkish Aerospace Industries and the Italy-based AgustaWestland and was added to the inventory of the Turkish Armed Forces in 2014.

Designed to operate in hot conditions, the T129 can be deployed in a wide range of operations including attack, reconnaissance and deterrent missions

There is an immense potential for Turkish-Pakistani military contracts. As Turkey's technology matures, only Pakistan is going to benefit from it. The only competition to the Turks would be the Chinese arms suppliers who can, make sophisticated arms at a faster and greater rate than Turkish industries to compete for a large defence market.

Z-10 and T-129 ATAK are the two most evenly competing gunships for the Pakistani tender. At the end, it will boil down to which of the two can actually be used in the high altitude Himalayan terrain in northern Pakistan and in the hot Thar desert in the eastern border.

Considering that Pakistan badly needed gunships to fight terrorists long before even the JF-17 deal, this could be an interesting fight. :)

A sane person who realize the nature of relationship between Pakistan and Turkey, never make a comparison. Two nation have many similarity in tradition, culture, respected history and time tested brotherhood cooperation whenever one side needed. The advancement/superiority of Pakistan (being ahead of Turkey in some/many field) is a benefit for Turkey. Superiority of Turkey at some/many fields is also a benefit of Pakistan. That’s why Turks always hope the best for Pakistan instead of being a rival at any field. Go ahead Pakistan and be the master of any technology you desire. Turkey will always side with you...

We learn from each other to benefit both countries.

Because we are not a foreign country in IDEAS. Pakistan is our another home. Our greatest desire is Pakistan's stand up as a sovereign and powerful state with all the dignity. Because the DNA of the Pakistani state comes from the large and powerful Muslim Asia.

Our relationship with the people of Pakistan is neither geographic nor political. It is not a perspective of partnership that develops over global balances. We are people who believe that they carry common fate with the people of Pakistan and salute the common flag. I strongly believe, we have not started to use even 1% of the potential, in our bilateral relations.
