ISLAMABAD: Turkey’s envoy in Pakistan on Friday criticised the ‘double standards’ of Western nations, calling the initial reaction of some leading democracies to the failed July 16 coup attempt in his country ‘unfortunate and disgraceful’.

“Some big countries supported only stability [in Turkey], not democracy… initially, they did not react,” Ambassador S Babür Girgin told reporters at a briefing at the Turkish Embassy in Islamabad. “It is disgraceful for those countries to call themselves democracies,” he said.

The envoy showed slides displaying the ‘biased’ coverage of some leading Western media outlets. He said even after the coup attempt had failed, some outlets continued to give the impression that it was under way. “It is frustrating to see distorted comments by some Western media outlets and some politicians. We hope that this is not the position of their governments,” he said.

Girgin said his government strongly believes dissident cleric Fethullah Gulen, who is currently in exile in the US, orchestrated the coup attempt. “We have solid proof that Gulen led a terrorist organisation which was behind the coup. We have called on all friendly countries to help us against this group,” he said.

According to the envoy, Gulen runs a ‘terrorist’ group with deep connections in different Turkish departments. “Their network was not limited to armed forces. The officer who held the chief of general staff hostage confessed he reported to a teacher every day,” he said.

He told reporters that the Turkish parliament was still discussing reinstating the death penalty for those behind to coup. He said Erdogan would only re-impose it if parliament called for it.

A night of chaos for Pakistani expats in Turkey

Girgin accused the West of double standards when it comes to Muslim countries. “Western leaders criticised us when Turkey imposed a state of emergency for three months. But when France extended their emergency for six months, their foreign minister criticised us the same day,” he said.

Girgin also claimed Gulen’s group had a big presence in Pakistan and that his government was in contact with Islamabad in this regard. He refrained from commenting on the issue further. He thanked the people and government of Pakistan for always standing by Turkey.

So is this Turkey's indirect method of seeking help from ISI, who has a powerful network across the world, in tracking down Gulenists?

Lol. Just like Zakir Naik sitting in Hindu India orchestrated and influenced perpetrators of Bangldesh attacks.

Naik has not returned from KSA yet.

He's wanted. And he knows what will happen when he comes back.

It was good of Bangladesh government to ban him. So now we can use National Security Act and arrest all those who support Naik and his lunacy, as it poses a threat not only to non-Muslims but also to neighbouring countries that are largely muslims themselves.

I think turkish govt priority is to shut down (Pak-Turk schools) in Pakistan ... those schools are associated with gulen ...

Won't that harm the bilateral relations in the process?

After all this is what engages the people of two countries.

Schools, colleges, hospitals etc.

I suggest Pakistanis to watch this video; Gulen movement raises children to infiltrate government positions through education. You Government is likely already compromised to this CIA controlled movement.

extracts from the above article :

"About the international reaction to the failed overthrow attempt, he said it had now been denounced by all countries, but initially the reaction of some of the champions of democracy was “disappointing”.

"One of the officials, who assisted the ambassador at the press briefing, claimed that the CIA had even disclosed the route of President Erdogan’s business jet as he flew to Istanbul from Marmaris, where he had been vacationing, putting his life at risk.

Two pro-coup F-16s intercepted Erdogan’s plane, but mistook it for a passenger flight.

When asked for the basis of his claim, the official said everyone knew who ran Stratfor – the global intelligence group that tweeted Erdogan’s flight path."

"On the issue of adjustments in Turkish foreign policy, the envoy clarified that the decision in this regard had been taken before the coup attempt." (Read rapprochement with Russia)

"About staying in Nato, he said no decision had been taken as yet."

With out dwelling too much on what was said by honourable Turk diplomats in Pakistan, lets examine the ground realities as outsiders and neutrals. Turkish government, from the very top level are accusing the Gulen movement hatching this coup. This so called "Islamist" leader, Mr Gulen, is living in a sprawling Pennsylvania compound for a very long time. Which in itself is a mind boggling anomaly. Out of all people, an Islamist, living in the heart of America!!! Makes perfect sense doesnt it?

When Turks are adamant that Gulen was involved in the coup, it should be clear the coup was in planning for sometime, with communication and information flowing between Mr Gulen American setup and local Turkish traitors. Who in right frame of mind, with little bit of common sense would believe that American establishment, their security and intelligence apparatus (read CIA/NSA) would have no clue as to what was going on before and right in the midst of coup. Worst, why American didnt alert the Turkish authorities of this impending danger?

was it american intelligence failure "just like" 9/11, OR was it actually Americans pulling the strings from behind. For time being it is the later which is more like the case.

America needs to come clear rather quickly, time is running out.

As for Pakistan, we MUST put our weight behind the Turkish government. It is our vital interest that current Turkish government must consolidate. Pak-Turk relations have never been this good specially in defence sector. This must not be allowed to derail. Pakistan must extend it good offices to help the Turks specially in intelligence and counter intelligence. And if Turks eventually decide that they had enough of NATO and leave, we must extend cooperation with them even on strategic level. Meaning, the American nukes in incirlnk should be replaced with Pakistani nukes and other delivery system to protect Turkey sovereignty and territorial integrity. Leaving NATO will piss off a lot of western powers, Pakistan must help Turkey in making in this decision.

Pakistan has been far more compromised than that. CIA, SIS, BND, DGSE ran around like it was their play ground. Gulen schools would be mere bread crumbs in comparison.

The other thing is We need Good schools in Pakistan because the governments eats the money that needs to be spent on education! Shutting down schools is highly counter productive! There needs to be another way to resolve this issue.
