Tianjin Blasts: Latest Developments

I don't believe on "accidental mistake", especially like in Tianjin explosion, because date of this accident is one reason. ...
You mean it the same day Japan got nuked?

It is nothing with health and safety standard, our standard is high and our political system is very concerned with this kind of accidents,if any accident cause more than 3 death need to report to the province government and most of our provinces have more than 50 million population, any accident cause more than 10 death need to report to the central government ,the central government usually send a team to investigate the accident and punish tens of related departments officials even they are actually not related in person, that is why many local government officials try to hide accidents because the punishment are very harsh. And it is nothing with developing country or developed country,if we take Tianjin as a country, the living standard of Tianjin can match the developed countries. The biggest problem is supervision, the normal supervision is easily affected by corruption officials or lack of technology,in a fast developing country, many peopke want to do everything to become rich quickly and make quick money, that is why we have so many bold businessmen and officials even we have very harsh law punishment, after such kind of accidents everytime,we will see lots of officals will be setenced to jail or lose their positions.

Nowadays it's easy to avoid that. Compel those business to send live cameras video signal to central government over internet and save all the data. The cost of this nowadays is near to zero.

You mean it the same day Japan got nuked?

The same day of Renminbi devaluation.

Yuan devaluation = speed up China economy.
This fact = slow down China economy.

This seems a USA countermeasure against Yuan devaluation.

If US is found to be behind this they will devalue the rmb by another 20%

I saw the Tianjin government's press conference of Tianjin blast ... i just feel most Tianjin senior officers should be kicked out at least over 60% ... Facing many news media & journalist questions, their answers & behaviors on the conference r very unprofessional & lower level.

Reports are coming up suggesting the firemen may have actually accidentally caused the second and successive more powerful blasts by using water to dose off the initial fire

Water on reacting with cyanide present had chain reaction and resulted in highly deadly explosive cyanide gas which resulted in the massive explosions.

Awaiting more inputs...

Data about dangerous chemical storage should be centralised and easily available to firemen in order to avoid things like that in the future.

The chemicals explosion is very complex, coz when fire caught nobody knew how many tons & types of chemicals stored in the RuiHai international logistics company's dangerous goods warehouse ... news said there's a mistake between customs storage data and RuiHai company's real chemicals goods ... maybe chemicals smuggling (i think so) the real tons larger than data listed.

At last the Tianjin RuiHai international logistics company make a big "thermobaric bomb" inside their dangerous goods warehouse ... when Tianjin firefighters fighting those fired containers, water might lead to huge chemical reaction then it blasted.

There problem is ... when 100+ Tianjin firefighters & Seaport hired firefighters coming into the dangerous goods warehouse, they really don't know how many tons & types of chemicals, the RuiHai international logistics company make a lie about real tons of chemicals goods ... and it result in how Tianjin government allow the company passed former safety inspection & how allow the company setup the dangerous goods warehouse inside Tianjin seaport ? Now a big accident changed to Tianjin government's issue ...

After three days fighting, hundreds Tianjin firefighters rest

Websites punished for spreading rumors about blasts
August 16, 2015

China's Internet regulator ratcheted up its crackdown on online rumors after a massive explosion in north China's Tianjin.

In a statement released on late Saturday, the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) accused 50 websites for creating panic by publishing unverified information or letting users spread groundless rumors.

Rumors circulated on the websites included "the blasts killed at least 1,000 people," "shopping malls in Tianjin got looted" and "leadership change in Tianjin government."

The CAC said such rumors caused negative influences. It shut down and revoked licenses of 18 websites, and suspended operation of another 32 websites.

The CAC said it would take a zero-tolerance attitude towards websites spreading rumors after major disasters.

30 special firemen from Liaoning, Jiangsu have been dispatched by China's Ministry of Public Security to form a nuclear biochemical detection and examination team to work at ‪#‎TianjinBlast‬ site Saturday evening.

A team of 214 military specialists in handling nuclear and biochemical materials has arrived in the northern Chinese city of Tianjin on Thursday following Wednesday's warehouse explosion.

In response to whether the increase of manforce suggests occurance of new problems at the blast site, Shi Luze, chief of staff of the Beijing Military Area Command, says on Sunday that no significant unexpected circumstances have arisen during the course of the rescue.

Firefighter recalls the moment containers exploded around him: 'I thought I was finished'

Twenty-seven-year-old Yang Kekai couldn't get his terrible experience out of his head when he arrived at the blast scene in North China’s Tianjin on Wednesday night with 30 more colleagues as he lay in a hospital bed recovering.

"Many containers are stacked together and all on fire, covering a land area of 70 square meters and burning with ten-meter-high flames," recalled Yang, who is among the first batch of firefighters to arrive at the site after answering a fire emergency call at 10:30pm.

Standing in formation, Yang and his fellow firefighters started using hydraulic guns to fight the flames. Yang was about 60 meters away from the fire point, which was only 30 meters away from the firefighter who was nearest the firepoint.

“We managed to control the spread of the fire, but the containers exploded unexpectedly 15 minutes after we started spraying water.

“I subconsciously bent forward and supported my body with both hands on the ground; I heard the noise of 'bang bang' when burning container debris struck my back.”

"Before I recollected myself, more than ten seconds later another blast happened," said Yang, whose body was swept away by the shock wave because the second blast was even stronger.

"When I was flying in the air, my heart skipped a beat and I thought I was finished," said Yang, who later fell heavily on a green belt five or six meters away.

Without knowing how long had passed, the young man regained his consciousness with blood streaming down his forehead and container pieces pouring down, and saw a pile of containers ten meters away.

Yang struggled crawling toward the remaining bunker in the devastated site and found several colleagues who were capable of moving. Together, holding onto each other, they limped away from the deadly blast site.

Lying in bed, Yang said he was lucky because he suffered only cuts and bruises.

"I called my wife at noon and told her that I'm fine and not to worry about me," said Yang, whose wife is six months pregnant.
